Len Deighton RiP

I was going to post this morning but only The Times ran the story and I wondered if they’d made a mistake!

So many to mention but of course Harry Palmer stands out. Though it was Goodbye Mickey Mouse I read and re-read several times in my youth…

Is the funeral in Berlin

I watched this twice recently because it did such a good job of explaining what made him tick.

The Ipcress File has always been one of my favourite films from seeing it on TV as a youngster. Funeral in Berlin is good but not quite as good and Billion Dollar Brain a bit of a mess really.

Having watched the documentary prompted me to read the Bernard Samson novels in order. 2 down with 7 to go.

So long Mr Deighton and thanks for providing such stimulating material.

‘Bomber’ is a an important way point from my past as an RAF/aviation enthusiast and WW2 curious child of 1960. For its time this book was an exceptionally well researched, brilliantly conceived and well balanced book about the balance between the heroism, bravery and savagery of the bombing of Germany. A gripping read too.

Love this one too. Must be about time I re-read it.
