LINN 50th Anniversary LP12

You’re also assuming Naim aren’t involved here, they can be easily enough, the thing preventing them doing it themselves is all the manufacturing and tooling overheads, none of the components can be deemed unobtainable, it’s a case of making the investment to cover the costs and if lucky a nominal amount of profit.
A crowd funded project based on a defined development and manufacturing costs estimate allows the community and enthusiasts to share that risk and investment directly.
You could even fit one to a 50th Anniversary LP12 should you be fortunate enough to be in a position to do so, I’m sure there’s a few who could and would!

I have two AROs. One has been on my LP12 for getting on for 30 years, and recently I was able to buy a (virtually) new one re-wired by Linn (not Naim).

All that I need now is a newly refurbished Linn Troika, to supplement my Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua.

See Peter’s reply #254 to my tongue-in-cheek comment about a suitable Keel for Aro to fit the LP12-50.

I suspect that if you didn’t put a Naim trademark on an Aro clone the Prior Art would be enough to keep clear of the lawyers. It’s not like there was anything new about their implementation. They just did it with the usual care and attention to detail…

Clive, I believe the two gents who persuaded Linn to produce the Keel/A were Peter Swain of Cymbiosis (who often posts here) and Ray Horn of Grahams in Islington, who were my dealers when I lived in London.

It was Peter’s reply I was referencing.

Is there a significant difference to the nominal and ARO Keels?

Indeed you were!

The arm mounting arrangements are completely different.

I always thought the Tiger Paw Javelin was very Aroesque
I’m sure that would have done a great turn.

Oh my the amateur IP lawyers have now gone totally off the rails.

Respectfully submitted,

A helicopter look at the LP12 -50 , with the curved edges it looks a bit like an IPAD

Ives designs:
The worst mouse ever designed. I had to teach evening classes of students all gripping these things upside down and slowly developing RSI
The wireless mouse that can’t be charged and used at the same time
The iMac computer running one of the crashiest OS ever with the hidden reset button operated with a paperclip
The toilet seat
I like some of his designs, but throwing rounded corners curves at cuboid forms and his preference for visual simplicity over function and usability went much too far at times.

I owned the Magic Mouse 2 I was amazed that the charging thing was allowed. It reminded me of cartoons with turtles :turtle: knocked on their backs and unable to get up.

Ray Horn of Grahams has retired :smiling_face_with_tear:

Keel for Aro was all down to Peter Swain and had to Order 25 at a time.
And had to pay up for his enthusiasts convenience and upgrade opportunity. :+1:t2:

Not so. Grahams HiFi were very much part of the process of convincing Linn. I bought my Keel/A from Grahams at the time.

Of course, Mr Swain was closely involved as well.

RH retired, and moved to somewhere on the South Coast not long after I moved from London to Brighton in 2010.

I looked at the Javelin when upgrading from my Linn Akito.

In the end, went with a Linn Ekos SE, which Peter at Cymbiosis did me a nice deal on.
