Thanks to all forum members who helped with my Linn Sara 9 dilemma. They are up and running and sounding very nice. I have my system complete.
i have seen saras for sale with the woofer having like a whitish cone in the middle is this replacements?
Hi Garyi, they sound like the original Linn Sara. They also may have an XLR connection. I think they sound slightly better than the Sara 9. These are in my main system with a nap 250, I did use them with a nap 180. The nap 180 is driving the Sara 9. According to Linn these are both 1988 versions.
ah righto I’ll keep an eye out then. Do these not have a crossover in then?
Both of my versions have crossovers in. I had a little issue a few weeks ago. I bought my last pair of Sara’s and was not sure if they were active or passive. It worked out that they were passive and had crossover’s built in.
Linn told me that active Sara’s were made to order, but there is some Sara’s out there that have been made active by others. My advice is when you audition a pair, look at the mid/bass driver and see if there is any damage. To get to the crossover you go through the front which means removing the driver. It is hard not to mark or damage the front of the cabinet. I have never been inside one so it’s only what I have been told.
I think active Sara’s have 2 XLR connections on each speaker or 4 horizontal banana plugs on each speaker. In this thread there is a picture of each type, my picture and Quad57 shows passive pictures. They are bi-wired or use links or jumper leads. I made some jumper lead to get my working. You can buy them easily.
