Linn Selekt Journey

Hi @Seacat77, I haven’t compared the Linn with DAVE in DAC mode but have had a home demo of the dual mono organik and it was very good, I didn’t make the change though, I preferred my current system with the DAVE. I also didn’t need an amp or streamer so felt I would effectively paying £16,995 for a DAC.
Maybe worth considering the forthcoming Quartet scaler or another DAC, I’ve listened to Weiss 501, Mola Mola Tambaqui, DCS and Linn, still got the DAVE.

Right! I’ve stopped tinkering for some time just after the pandemic started, just use the stock, standard stuffs that come with HIFI manufacturers, and listen to the music, because I could not justify the time/cost & efforts, and no markedly discernable differences.

Or just listen to lots more music?

Actually, I was wrong - Roon works fine, it turns out the Roon stutters badly because the track is corrupted, the stock Linn App somehow discovers that the track is bad, and it skips it.

Just for something different today, swapped the final cable from the NetGear GS105 switch to the Linn Selekt.

Put back in the Chord Signature Super ARAY Streaming Cable instead of the CatSnake Ethernet Cable.

Sat down to listen to the difference. Nothing, no change whatsoever.

Put the CatSnake back in and will leave well alone for the future.

That’s as far up the Chord streaming line I tried, and with the same result.

If you have good, stable WIFI env in your home, I suggest that you try your Linn streamer with WIFI. You may be surprised that it sounds good, maybe better than using your switch with wired copper or optical ethernet cable, at least I am in my own home.

Hi some background to my journey, I had a naim system NDX/252/SCapDR/300/Titan T88 and lived with this system for 8/10 years. I decided to go to a one box system Linn Selekt DSM classic case Utoptik/Organic/Dual Mono in to ATC 40a loudspeakers, I had this system for over 2 years and initially enjoyed this system but found I was listening to it less and less. I have returned to the Naim fold NSS333/NAC332/2 NPX300 and kept the ATC40s, this system has my feet tapping again, Naim have produced a superb system imho. Apologies for description but speakers have disappeared, just an image in front on me, detail in abundance more polite than my last Naim system but draws you into the music in a way the Linn never did for me, not to say the Naim is better just suits me better. Been listening to music non stop Nina Simone, The Doors and everything in between. Just great to be enjoying music again, this is my end system perhaps check out the ATC 50s but that aside I have reached my goal.

I used to own a previous generation Linn Klimax DSM and I found it sounded soft, and sometimes boring if it was not paired with matching amplification or speakers.

Was actually very good.

And exceptionally knowledgable.

I did a demo on the linn and agree on your assessment, technically the Linn a great piece of kit but it just doesn’t pull you in like a good Naim system.

Does anyone here know when the Utopik PSU is available for the Linn Solos amps? For some reason, maybe my illusion/imagination or my Linn Solos are dud, yesterday I hooked in an Exposure 3510 amp in place of the Linn Solo mono blocks, and I found it sounded better, more prat, more lively.

TheTP-Link Media Converter kit that I won for £25 on eBay arrived today.

All connected up and appears to be working.

Let it settle for a day or so, then start playing.

I’m thinking of getting the same ADOT package for my Klimax DSM. It will be interesting to see it improves clarity and slam
