Linn Selekt Journey

Not sure if this is now the lowest cost option or a new intermediate level offering. We’ll soon find out I guess.

Website suggest the ‘new’ Classic replaces the ‘old’ Classic with;

  • Aluminium construction with acrylic fascia
  • Cut-glass control dial
  • Six programmable machined stainless-steel ‘smart’ buttons
  • Wide range of inputs accept virtually any source
  • High-performance MM/MC/Line-In Analogue Phono Stage
  • Powered by Utopik – Linn’s best power supply design ever

Isn‘t the Utopik standard PS for a year or so?

Maybe not the full year. IIRC they had an upgrade program running earlier this year to allow people with the older PS to upgrade to the Utopik for a good price.

I’m currently trying out Kudos KS-1 with the Akurate power amplifier, which is technically more or less similar to the Selekt power modules (Chakra). Already pretty good with a few hours, better than the other cables I have tried in this setup.

Utoptik was in Dec 2022 model :+1:

They are very good cables.

I agree, above all they are affordable. They just seem a bit soft to me. But the cables are new and far from burnt in, so anything can change.

…1 have a pair of 6m. Maybe it’s too long for 1.5mm2 and that’s where the soft sound comes from. We will see.

Those who actively operate a Kudos 606. Do you have the normal power amplifier module in the selekt and the connection runs via speaker cable?

I have seen that there is a new linn speaker (150) and this can also be actively operated. Could be an option for me

Sometime, I think the Dynaudio’s love a bit more power than the Linn Power-Out module can provide. I’ve talked to my dealer and discussed the option of adding a separate pwoer amplifier like the NC 250 or a Bel Canto 601.

Any thoughts on these?

Looks as if the Classic Hub price has increased by around £700 for the new version. For that, you get sub out, headphone amp, better feet and cosmetic improvements. That looks quite a good deal to me and I wonder if recent classic hub purchasers will be offered an upgrade deal.

Personally I use 2 x output modules each fitted with organik DAC. Each module has 2 x 50 watts so that is 50 watts to each of the four speakers. Works for me at the volumes I listen at. Might be a bit low on power if you are a person who likes the volume very high.

Yes, I run two stereo out amplifier cartridges, with two Organik DACs and KS-1 speaker cable.

I was worried about power when I got the Select DSM, like Diggy I have 2 amp modules with Organic DACs into T606’s. Volume for good listening is around 65-68 and maybe if I want to go a bit mad 72-78. I did try a few albums around 85 volume and some of them made me jump (think Rammstein and Tower of Power). However, still waiting for the speakers to run in before any major tweaking, what I am finding is that I can listen at lower volumes because of the incredible detail and not missing floor shaking bass, but appreciating the speed and timing of the music.

A question to the vinyl listeners:

Who uses the internal mm/ mc preamplifier, who uses an external one?

I have a gold note PH10/ PSU and find it superior to the internal?

I’m still using my Linto, rather than internal MC stage on the Edition, really need to compare as if equal or better would save me a box.

Mrs Klout just said that she loved the look of the new Linn 119 speakers more than the Dynaudio Special Forty’s … that gives me the opportunity to add an additional power-out module and DAC module … very tempting

And she wouldn’t even notice that

I also had the thoughts with the 150. But, 3x my speaker cables would be a little bit to much

Yes, I’m using it, but I’m going to switch to an Urika II, which hasn’t built itself in yet. Anyway, the built-in stage is excellent for a built-in phono preamp. But certainly not the best money can buy.
