This excellent 10" EP from 2020 is still available via Bandcamp. It sold out very quickly when first released but was then reissued a year after.

Hi Bob

Yes, GoGo Penguin are brilliant, live and recorded.

Where did you see them?

Mrs. JimDog and I saw them at the Royal Northern College of Music a couple of years ago, playing the soundtrack to the film Koyannisquatsi, and it was probably the best gig I’ve ever seen.

Last night, though, was a different kettle of fish.

The mixing was not good in the Albert Hall, Manchester.

Drums too prominent in the mix, piano shrill, bass was muddy, and the whole was way too loud.

Every time the bass drum was kicked we felt a blast of air on our chests.

The lightshow was over powering.

We had a brilliant night anyway, involving sushi, wine, beer and G&Ts - while my mother-in-law looked after the kids.

Hopefully it was just a one off, and they’ll be back on form again next gig.

Also, it may just be me, as many people seemed to be enjoying the show.

Cheers
Jim

Thanks for the write up and I’m glad you had a great night despite the slight disappointment at the concert.

Unfortunately I’ve only ever seen film of GoGo Penguin live where of course you do not get the atmosphere but because of editing/mastering the sound is always great.

They are on our list of bands to see live and in person as soon as the time is right.

Thanks again for the write up.

Koyaanisqatsi… that I’d love to hear in live performance!

Yes, they had the film playing above the stage as they played.

They had reinvented the Philip Glass score through a GoGo Penguin lens.

I can imagine they will do similar types of projects again in future.
