Love the 272 please update - 1 click like post

What are your thoughts, Pete, on the feasibility/likelihood of a 272 v2 or 372 coming to fruition?

I know Charlie kinda said be patient and watch this space, but it has been a long, long wait.

Think I’ve touch on it once or twice, the original 272 was so good it caused problems with the separates (others have mentioned it as well). I don’t stream from a 3rd party as we have no access to hi res streaming in Aus yet (Amazon have plans but like my statement it’s a long time coming) and the max res files I own are 24/192 which the 272 handle with ease. Even if I did want to stream from a 3rd party I’ve got an Atom in my lounge room. Even if they did update it, which to answer your question I don’t think they will I wouldn’t be in a hurry to upgrade. Got speakers and a server to worry about first and I’ll probably be deaf before all that happens.

Oops and I forgot I’m impressed with my 272 and I’m only running the XPS DR, I’ve still got improvements to go (apparently)

I would definitely be interested in a 272 v2 or a 372 when I finally decide to downsize, which is bound to happen as I age further, space becomes an issue and hearing starts to fail.

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about the power supplies. The XPS DR components only occupy half the black box and a Hicap is a half box. The 555 can power both the pre-amp and streamer in the 272. There is a desire to reduce box counts. Develop a new single box power supply that will feed a 272-2 or the SN2/3, 202, 282 and a new headphone amp and also power the NDX2 or a new DAC.

That’s why I bought the Atom, option 2. My gen 1 Muso is option 3.

Get a Nova and keep your 250, run it bi-amped. Add a sub if you want.

Think that may not happen, they make too much money out of the separate ps. I was mortified to see inside a flat cap.

To put it this way I could have a PS555 or buy my granddaughter a brand new hatchback. I’d of course take the 555 but Mrs Pete wouldn’t be impressed.

Yes, Mrs Mikes new car was less than a new 555 PS here.

Just hit the clock button on remote the time will display and after artwork then it will fade back out in about 15 seconds

Thinking about my last post, there isn’t much option for those who own classic or 500 series to downsize to. To move from a Fraim full of separates to say 3 boxes, you have 272 (v2?)/PS555DR/250DR. Downsizing to one box is just the Nova, plus a 250DR for a two-boxer.

So a 272 v2 or 372 could facilitate both upgrading and downsizing. This might just broaden its appeal.

Or just an Atom and a good set of speakers. Most of my guests are impressed by the sound of the Atom + Kef speakers, they’re surprised I have something “better” downstairs.

Also NDX2 and SN3 for a smaller system. The NDX2 can stay up and down the classic range of separates.

Mrs Mike says the Nova is better than the main system :flushed::flushed::flushed:

I had some drunken mates here a few months back and one of them thought the same. He preferred the Atom/Kef over the 272/250/Royds. I threw him out of course.

It’s probably the lit volume control…

More likely the alcohol. :rofl::rofl:

Yep, there is the Star also. But for someone who has come from say a top Classic or 500 series system, an Atom say, might be too much of a drop in SQ, no disrespect to Uniti owners.

The 272 v2 could just be the ticket. I suspect however the downsizing market could be rather small, especially once to get past those who have defected to Vitus.

True it’d like going to sleep owning a Ferrari and waking up with a Merc, still nice but definitely not the same.

Of course, with Covid 19, Brexit and unemployment worsening, Naim might want to hunker down, trim R&D, and reduce/rationalise its product range. That would mean eliminating products that overlap.

You could argue the 272 overlaps with ND5XS2, NDX2, 202, 282 and Nova.

Oh dear…
