This demo pair should be less than new A5’s. That’s one advantage!
Wow what a beautiful dealership.
And the S5 MkII is significantly better than the A5.
If you’re able to get a good price for the S5, no second thoughts!
And my dealer has a pre-defined program guaranteeing certain trade-in value if in the future I want to trade in or trade up. They have no issues selling used Magico.
And Michael, the owner, is both friendly and welcoming.
I was able to spend the time I wanted listening to the fine setups the Sound Loft offers.
Last time I went there I even brought my daughter.
Really nice guy!
In a good sized room my Mágico dealer much prefers the S5 over the M2. No doubt the M2 is a “better” speaker and in a small to medium sized room it’s quite spectacular. In a large room room I think you might have to step up to the M6 and Im not sure I would want to do that with anything less than Statement level kit.
In terms of SPL, especially at producing low end, the M2 is no match for the S5.
In terms of size, the M6 is closer to the S5.
Hopefully, my average sized room is perfect for the M2
What happened to the M3?
I think M2 will be ideal for your room and new system
Thanks!
But, it won’t happen before at least a few months. One step at the time
@Thomas, if you’re interested, I’d like @Richard.Dane to send you my email. We can discuss a few items re Magico and Soulution via email if you’re ok with that!
I haven’t heard the M3 but it’s apparently quite different in character to the M2 and M6 due to a completely different internal structure - aluminium for the M3 and carbon fibre monocoque for the 2 and 6. The 3 was the first to be released following the M Project technology show/test piece and the 2 and 6 were later, further refinements.
Now I want the S5… I’m so fickle with this stuff.
I would have just ordered the A5’s but the demo pair provide an opportunity.
Been listening to my local dealer’s ex-demo pair of S5MkII’s at home now for 2 hours. They are goosebump-inducing. They do the classic Magico disappearing trick. Current setup is an equilateral triangle; they are almost 10 feet apart and the sweet spot seat is 10 feet from each tweeter.
The tricky question is that it’s not rocket-science to figure out that the S MKII series must be at the end of its life. What’s next? Who knows. But the dealer would always take these back in trade so the financial hit of trading out of them when the new stuff arrives is contained, plus these are priced as ex-dems.
If they really float your boat, I’d just go for them! Everything can always be improved and maybe even will, but we also have to live in the present and at the same time there’s one thing that’s very unlikely to improve as we age and that’s our ears
I think we know in our guts, if we’ve been looking for a particular sound or experience from speakers, when something finally comes along that ticks most or all of the boxes.
If you feel all the boxes are ticked and you’re getting that emotional response, well…
I felt like that about the big Shahinians and can’t say I’ve regretted it for a minute. Hopefully you’ll be an equally happy bunny
A very sensible approach Michael!
I usually don’t fall for the ‘but there will be a new version next year’ endless do-loop, but here there will be a new version literally any day. I’ll see what I can learn from my dealer and make a practical decision. He obviously cant reveal anything he knows under confidence, but he does 100% take care of his customers and builds long relationships and would not sell off ex-dem speakers without regard to this.
Hi Elfer, having somewhat missed this thread for some reason I just wanted to congratulate on your choice of new speakers- fabulous looking and great integration into your listening space Best Peter
Thanks Peter. That was more than a year ago already, how time flies! I’m still very much enjoying the speakers but the listening space has changed quite a bit - decorated, treated, shortened (new office/spare bedroom added), kit relocated etc. I’ll post an updated pic when I get home in a couple of weeks or so.
My Magico M2 are being built and should be here in a few weeks
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to test them with my Naim 500 system; it’s gone, sold within a few days.
But my experience with Magico S3 MkII and a full seven boxes Naim 500 DR system was so good and pleasurable that I believe the M2s would also blend remarkably well with a Naim system.
For those looking for highly transparent speakers that let the system shine, Magico is something not to miss.
