Making a Change to my Rega P9 TT

That is a very sensible approach @Vorsanteri

Any experience with how many hours I might expect from the Apheta? I don’t use a RCM or a stylus cleaner B/C of my eye hand coordination. My prior cartridges were MM.

50/100 hours.

A lifespan of 50 or 100 hours isn’t very long…

800 hours would be more normal.

1000 to 1500.

Can your husband clean the stylus for you?

I understood burn in. For life span, I would say maybe 2000 hours.

Doubt it

No

2000 hours would be great.

It ranges from 800 to 2000 hours…

To be honest I have never worn a stylus out. I have always cleaned vinyl with a simple dust brush, and a brush for the stylus. I have also often upgraded the stylus before wearing it out. As I see it a diamond stylus isn’t going to wear against a vinyl record. It will however pick up vinyl that wii stick to and affect the performance of the stylus. Keeping it clean is the secret to a long life.

And for a stylus

Given eye hand coordination and vision issues, I would risk breaking the stylus which is worse than not cleaning it.

I was expecting at least an ooh er. :joy:

I’m a bit confused, you keep mentioning disabilities preclude you from undertaking various tasks, for example cleaning a stylus as you may break it. However, you changed from a MM to a MC which in the event of damage is a whole new cartridge, whereas with a MM it’s just the change of stylus.

I understand your rapid quest to upgrade, but perhaps also step back and make a compromise where it maybe helpful in the long term.

And before you ask, I also have vision loss and hearing loss, plus other issues.

Dear Jaybar

Enough of this….best advice to you is this: get on with enjoying the music. You have chosen well from a number of choices which would also have served you well.

Best to you,

J
