Making Mu-so 2 as a smart speaker with voice assistance?

Hi all,

I have a Mu-so 2. I’d love to make it as a smart speaker with voice assistance which I can voice-control over Google Home or Apple Home (turn on, turn off, voice-control to play specific songs)

The idea is that I will plug a Google Chrome Cast or Onn TV 4K or Apple TV via HDMI.

Because Mu-so 2 supports HDMI CEC, If I command to turn on/off, the mu-so will turn on/off accordingly (I don’t want to use the remote all the time).

Has any ever done this before? Which specific devices should I buy? (a device with HDMI ARC (CEC)?)

If I understand you correctly, you propose to connect a ChromeCast (and not a ChromeCast Audio) to the HDMI port of the Muso, but your primary purpose is to use it for voice commands. This is because issuing voice commands to the Muso is not working as per your posts in another thread.

As per the other thread, I had the same problem and tried your solution. I was unsuccessful. I couldn’t get through the ChromeCast setup, which wants to sync to a TV. I didn’t spend too long trying to find a workaround, so perhaps you will have more luck.

If you can find a ChromeCast Audio puck (or splurge on a WIIM streamer that supports ChromeCast) you can use the analog or optical port and give commands to operate that device. I believe you would still need the remote or the Naim app to turn the Muso on (out of standby).

It’s also worth noting that AFAIK ChromeCast is never going to look into songs that you may have on an NAS or any other home music server. I don’t know if that is your goal.

I setup my Mu-so 2 in Apple Home and managed to get my iPhone to play music to it. For example, “Siri play music to living room” where it selected random tracks and played to the Mu-so over airplay. My Mu-so is connected to the router by Ethernet and my iPhone is connected by WiFi. I didn’t have to use an Apple TV.

Thanks you all for your replies.

I figured it out that I could add Muso to Apple Home and ask it to play music with Siri. I also don’t need to turn Muso on manually before that. Like @robin suggested!

However, I still want to find a solution for Google Home as well. The reason is that Google Assistant supports my mother language (Vietnamese) which allows me to ask them to play my Vietnamese songs. (Apple does not seem to support my language in near future and it does not understand the Vietnamese names).

I think the best way is to ask Naim to fix my built-in Chromecast.

Where are your Vietnamese songs stored? On the phone? On a computer or NAS? On a streaming service?
