McCartney's Lost Bass

Seems to be a lot of chatter this afternoon that Macca’s lost '61 Hofner bass has been found. Let’s hope so.

I wonder if the finder got a bung. :money_mouth_face:

How many Hofner basses were made in the 60’s?

Lovely story maybe, but how do they know it’s McCartney’s?

I guess someone could recreate the bass from existing photos, with its unique bridged pick up - but the beaten up case might be more problematic. Hope McCartney would recognise that. Interestingly, this image seems to have an MPL Communications watermark on it - though that’s no guarantee of its provenance.

Because it has some unique features, which a ‘standard’ Hofner Bass does not have.

It got repaired/modified at one point - I think in the pickup area - and was non-standard thereafter.

When I saw that Paul McCartney had lost his bass, my warped mind went here:

Trip to Bexhill on Sea today and rounding the corner from Winchelsea giving a nod to Spike Milligan in the graveyard, down the hill and round the corner, I looked up at Hogs Hill Mill (clearly visible from the road) and thought I bet Macca is twanging his old bass right now.

It’s probably residing in his attic. Great pic!

I nicked the picture from the net. It is a little further away from the road but amazing as it is clearly visible.

Winchelsea is fabulous.Lovely pub there with great food.
There is no street lighting and alot of the houses are quite American looking
White weather boarding…gardens with flowers and roses.
Down the road is Winchelsea beach .
Definitely worth a visit if your down in that area.
Its like going back in time.

Not much use, as I can’t get any sound.
