Melco Music Server - Internet Pass Through

I’m looking into buying a Melco N50- S38, however, I only have one LAN connection in my music room and my Lumin P1 streamer is LAN connection only.
If I connect the proposed Melco into the LAN connection I have will the Melco pass through the internet connection to my streamer which will be connected to the Melco to be able to stream Tidal and Internet Radio using my streamer and not using the Melco for these services?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

It will work fine just like that, your streamer will be doing it all and not the melco

To use the melco’s built in streamer you have to use the melco with it’s usb. It doesn’t work any other way.

I believe the Melco has to be powered on for the ‘Player’ ethernet port to operate….

Another way is to get a network switch, and run both into that.
I do this now as i found both my streamer and melco sounded better when they both ran through the switch. (PhoenixNet switch)

But in years gone by, i found running the ethernet through the melco sounded better than directly into my NDS. As the melco player port does some kind off isolation to the network.

But since changing things massively over the years this has changed for me now.
But using a melco for storage and isolation for your streamer might be better than the direct connection you have now. Only you can find out what works best for you. I am guessing you probably won’t hear anything different.

Just buy a switch. You can get silly, look around the threads in this here forum for that, or just get one on amazon for thirty quid.

Indeed, though if you can get an earthed switch, rather than one that is double insulated or powered simply by a floating DC tether lead.
