I wasn’t sure if anyone else had posted about this. Article in The Guardian about Michael Kiwanuka’s illness. Wishing him a full recovery.
I saw that too and this is very sad. I am a fan of his music which is played regularly here at Chez C. So Young and such an effect. May he recover completely and be back to making music as soon as possible.
I had read about his stroke only recently. Terribly cruel for anybody but especially for one so young and so musically talented. His 2019 album Kiwanuka spent the best part of a year permanently in one of my cars and never failed to reveal hitherto hidden delights. Here’s to his recovery!
A fantastic album. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Oh I did not know that. What a shame. I hope he will recover soon and he can continue to enjoy making great music.
Note there is a new album coming, finished before his stroke. ‘Fudge’ is released 23rd Oct.
His story made me think of Edwyn Collins. He had a serious stroke but did eventually return to making music.

It’s really sad news. So young and such a talent.
About 35% recover from a haemorrhagic stroke, 40% die in the first 30 days - and that leaves a balance.
About 15% of strokes are haemorrhagic strokes
Never heard of Mr Kiwanuka but wishing him well.
And made me think of Matthew Sweet
Very sad for him. Only bright light is that for the same brain injury a haemorrhagic stroke recovers better than the more common infarct ( blocked vessel ) . I wish him well.
I was very, very fortunate . ![]()

I sincerely hopes he makes a good recovery.
I remember reading about the various acts who were tipped by the BBC to be massive and his name kept coming up. I thought to myself “I bet he’s typical rubbish” but then thought I should give him a listen, rather than dismissing him unheard.
I immediately discovered what an absolutely belting album “Love & Hate” is and fully understood why he is so highly rated.
Get well soon Michael Kiwanuka.
While I’ve been aware of the name I don’t think I have ever knowingly listened to anything. So here I am, working from home and streaming the Kiwanuka album. Impressed so far.
You’re in for a treat, he’s made 4 albums ![]()
Though the article and his illness explain why the 5th is delayed ![]()
Yeah, it’s sad that this is the way I finally get to “discover” him.
Yes, this thread has been a timely reminder to revisit his albums again, which I have been doing this week.
