Mike Hat (Ghostbusters ref; actually 'Zelda GiGi') listens to muzak

Cat appears here, barely (thanks ISO 12800), listening to a few tracks from Arthouse Cafe (vol 2?)

At the two minute mark we see ‘anticipation’ (next song), and whilst the second harmonics of the pianoaccordian (?) are ‘all around’ (disturbs her a little, ‘ears’), by the time we get to Das Boot theme, we see the cat being uncomfortable… (it is an easy to skip track for this reason, clearly carrying some sub claustrophobia written into the music…); she licks foot to pass time until ‘pleasant music’ returns…

then we get to Suspiria, one of her favourites from this album (partly due to lots of ‘directional’ bells around the soundscape)…

The cat is appropriately focused, when called for…
the cutest thing she does is a chewing of the lips when she is listening seriously…
(she does that when trying to interpret newly introduced language and gestures too).

I admit the Panasonic GH5 (‘full manual’, -8dB internal microphone), handheld, is barely able to capture this footage.

Whilst the huge Rhode microphone attached to the camera certainly added to the weight, it was ‘unplugged’, and its only contribution to this footage is my need to ‘tilt up’ to counter balance.

sure, a BETTER RECORDING is possible, but …

here is my cat (Mike Hat) listening to a CD that is being given a reclock treatment on way to a NOS ladder DAC.

seriously- the cat only partakes when the audio is GOOD!
that spot she hasnt sat in for months, but magically is the stereo sweetspot in the room… (where as I am ‘back to the rear wall’ to sneakily record this)

apologies for the region lock on the music - everyone deserves music!

Sleep through the storm… (68dB peaks)

That says something about how universal music is.

The neurones in the brain of a cat can vibrate in time and in tune to sound waves as they can in the brain of a human.

@JimDog “spot on”

I kind of believe she (cat) is in tune with MY THOUGHTS…

my engagement or disengagement seem to alter her enjoyment, but also, when I am interpeting the lyrics (in my mind) she breathes and ‘engages’ empathetically almost, it seems, in tune with my thoughts…

It is ‘hard to say’- most research on the topic suggests humans ‘see’ human emotions in animals; and whilst video footage can imply all sorts of advanced thinking and ‘higher brain functions’; things like ‘Clever Hans’ (horse that performed math(if owner was ‘in the room’ and ‘visible’)) debunk some of the ‘fun’.

Like with many animals, strong mental ‘visual imagery’ is a communication method that we humans CAN develop, and send, in ways that ‘animals see’.

Whilst I am happy TALKING with my cat (mental ‘visual imagery’) much of the time… when I am listening to music,… not so!

This morning she jumped up beside me whilst I was making use of the ‘wee hours of the morning’ PERFECT POWER GRID! (best for HiFi), and when I shone a torch on her, she kinda moved away so as to ‘have privacy’.

Partner noted that she is defininately listening to music, as she is always in ‘certain spots’ and she angles her body for ‘sweet spot’ (stereo image) when left alone…

The first couple of minutes I try to get focus (and light) on her…

cheers…
