Miniset with cd player

My parents are asking me about a miniset type device.

Something in one piece, including speakers and able to play CDs. Control via remote or on the device, not via an app. Nice design and good SQ will be appreciated.

The only suggestion I could come up with is the Panasonic SC-HC412. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

The obvious answer is one of the denon all in one units plus speakers. Richer sounds are packaging the dm41 with a pair of wharfedales diamonds.
Denon have been making these units for years, so much so it’s the classic choice of its type.

Tricky, no end of one box systems without speakers like the Denon, Marantz and the like, and some with speakers but need cdp adding, like Ruark, not come across one with cdp and integrated speakers recently.

Unfortunately single device is a requirement, so no separate speakers.

Sonora prestige. All in one. With radio too.

If not, the Rega Apollo.

What an awful design compared to the Sonoro :yum:

Here’s a cheapo - Majority

The Sonora is indeed nicer, but as Cd player only, the Rega is not big and sounds certainly better.

I think the name for this type of thing is “micro hifi”. If they want a single unit then options are limited, but if you sit the “hifi” unit directly between a pair of bookshelf speakers, there are many more options available from denon, jvc, Panasonic etc.

I’ve never heard of Sonora. Any experience? How does it sound, say, compared to the Panasonic?

Tivoli Audio makes something similar called “Music System BT”. Nothing by Bose with CD any more.

Just read a good review on it. But reviews, as you know….
But seems to be well built.

I’d suggest the Ruark R3S. CD, FM, DAB, Internet Radio, Bluetooth. £649 and comes in white if they prefer that.

Thank you, I was going to suggest that you

So far we have:

  • Panasonic SC-HC412
  • Ruark R3S
  • Tivoli Music System+
  • Sonoro Prestige

I found it interesting to observe that none of these seem to support Tidal Connect and/or Google Cast. With the Panasonic I know an earlier iteration of the product did have Google Cast support, but it seems to have been dropped.

Sonoro Meisterstuck does seem to support it, but it is double the price any of the others.

I guess Bluetooth will have to do :-/

Hmmm, it looks like that model (SC-HC-2020) is still available in the UK, just not in the Netherlands.

Funny, they used to own one like that, but I wasn’t aware of the matching speakers. They still jave the Beolab 6000 speakers, now with a core.

I still use a 1995 Beocenter etc. daily!

Brilliant buy, as it turned out. Not sure it is for everybody, especially as a new-vintage choice, but keeping mine alive has been well worth the expense.
