Moya Brennan RIP

Moya Brennan, the lead singer of Clannad who also had a fine solo career has died. She had one of the great voices of Irish traditional music, an instrument of pure beauty.
Oddly I only saw her with Clannad, never solo, each of the Clannad gigs was memorable for her singing. RIP Moya.

(Edited because autocorrect randomly inserted an accent on the a of her first name. I’m pretty sure her birth name was Máire where I have to put the accent in myself, autocorrect doesn’t do it (it’s my sister’s name).)

As you say a great singer who made irish music more popular, r.i.p. She was relatively young too, very sad.

The theme from Harry’s Game haunts me to this day. She had a heavenly voice. RIP

Her 1995 album, misty eyed adventures, is a favourite.

Sad news, the music world loses a beautiful voice. Condoleances to family and friends on their loss.

We saw Clannad in the 90s (a while ago anyway), at Birmingham Symphony Hall, they were really excellent. She had a great voice.

At the Fleagh in Finsbury Park many years ago, I chanced to see Clannad in a side tent ( unlike my friends, I did not want to see the headliner Sting ). Wasn’t expecting how simply enjoyable and indeed, heartwarming they would be. Magical, memorable.

RIP Moya. And thanks.

A sad loss to music

How very, very sad to hear this.

I saw her at a local theatre a few years ago and her voice was stunning, as was the music. One of the best small gigs I’ve ever been to.

I was the skinny bloke with long hair, probably wearing black, in the audience.

Lol…coulda been me! Can’t remember if I’d cut my very long hair by then.

Did you happen to see a rock trio in the same tent earlier in the afternoon? They were great but I’ve forgotten the name. Had a brief chat with their singer after - “I could see you were digging it!” he said.

A good afternoon. Even if the promised (legal) ‘highs’ I bought didn’t work!

I don’t remember the rock band, I was watching main stage most of the time, but wanted to hear Clannad.

Must admit, I don’t remember who else was playing on the main stage through the day.

Very sad.

Loved them since Magical Ring.

Saw them for Macalla concert in the mid 80’s.

Also well known on club dance floors in the 2000s from her vocals on Saltwater by Chicane.

There’s a beautiful heart-felt tribute by Ralph McTell on the appropriate thread on the Steve Hoffman Forum. She had a truly unique voice and will be greatly missed.
