Mu-so gen 2 deep sleep problem

Hello,

I have the following problem with my Mu-so generation 2: every time I try to turn it on from its remote or by tapping on the volume dial on the top of the unit, it starts the wake-up procedure as normal, so first the LED lights up orange, than fixed purple for a few seconds, and then as soon as the LED turns white after less than a second the unit turns off automatically. I’ve already tried to disable auto standby from the app, restarted my router, tried to connect the Mu-so via an ethernet cable, performed a factory reset, unplugged it from the mains and plugged it back in, but the same problem occurs: it always turns off automatically, no matter how many times I try to turn it on with its remote or by tapping on the volume dial.

Important note: if I turn it on via the phone app or via roon, it turns on perfectly without any of the aforementioned issues, although it always takes a while to fully wake up (about 30 seconds), to me it looks like it goes into deep sleep mode by default, although I set the auto standby mode to “never”.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you

Matt

I have a Bentley Mu-so 2 running on firmware v4.5 correctly.

Could it be possible that the On/off button in your RC is sticky / jamming ? which may cause the above symptoms.

Hi Dugby,

I’ve checked the button and no, it isn’t sticky or jamming. I also tried using my logitech harmony elite remote, same issue

Is the battery in your Naim RC fresh ?

I thought I’d run some tests for you.

Last night with Internet Radio streaming via WiFi into my Bentley, I pressed the RC off button and switched off immediately.

This morning I pressed the RC to turn the Bentley on, it came on and was playing Internet Radio within 6 seconds. At no point did the side LED turn purple, it was white all the time during the power up.

Ensure your phone Naim App is up to date.

Whilst you have mentioned all the problem determination steps undertaken, may I suggest the following sequence using an ethernet cable connection to your router.

Poweroff the Mu-so 2 for at least 1 minute. Do not attempt to use Roon during the following activities.

Connect the ethernet cable between Mu-so and router.

Power on the Mu-so: Ensure the unit is switched on.

Locate the reset pinhole: Find the small reset pinhole on the side of the unit, next to the LED status indicator.

Press and hold the reset pin: Use a pin or a bent paperclip to press and hold the reset pin into the pinhole for 8-10 seconds.

Wait for the LED to change: Continue holding the reset pin until the status LED changes to orange.

Release the pin: Once the LED is orange, release the reset pin.

Wait for the reset process: The unit will take approximately 30 seconds to reset.

Re-establish network: After the reset, the Mu-so will need to re-establish its network connection.

Using the Naim phone App, you should be able to “add new device”, ie the Mu-so 2

If you are able to successfully add the Mu-so in the Naim App, try putting the Mu-so into standby using the Naim App.

Next try using you RC (with fresh battery) to power on the Mu-so.

I tried everything that you suggested and it partially worked, with that I mean that as long as I power off the Mu-so either via the app or via Roon and then I power it back on with its remote control (or even via a logitech harmony remote), it powers on and it stays on, although it does take much longer than 6 seconds, it seems that it is always in deep sleep mode every time I power it on. If on the other hand I power it off with its remote control (or with a logitech harmony remote) and then power it back on, it does exactly as I described in my original post (orange LED first, then purple, then white for half a second and then it powers off automatically).
I don’t understand what could really be the cause of this problem, but hopefully with the next firmware upgrade it will be solved.

Just using the Naim components ONLY.

If you are unable to reliably establish a cabled network connection, you might investigate if you have either a faulty Ethernet cable and/or a faulty Ethernet port in your router. As the purple LED indicates a network establishing issue.

What firmware version is your Mu-so ?

I doubt that, since you are the only owner reporting this problem. You could ask Naim Technical Support for help or ask your dealer.
