Mu-so QB Gen 1 – Naim Radio Compatibility

Hi folks,

I have a Naim Mu-So QB 1st gen device and it received updated firmware in 2025 (unless I’m mistaken) to enable it to continue using Naim’s new internet radio solution. If I remember correctly, the internet radio service provision underwent issues and the Naim team put together a new solution so gen 1 owners didn’t lose out on vital functionality. I mention this because I’m in the market to buy a used/recondition Mu-so QB Gen 1, but before I do so, I wondered if you could guide me. Are there particular variants of the gen 1 that will never be able to support the new internet radio solution?

I would like one which will be eligible for the firmware update I mentioned.

AFAIK all Mu-So QB Gen 1 units should be able to use the new Naim Internet Radio service. You just need to be running an up to date Focal Naim App and also the Mu-So needs up to date firmware. More here:

Thanks @Richard.Dane for your reply and the link. That URL mentions the streaming service requires the following:

  • Mu-so & Qb 2nd Generation - 4.4.0 or higher (Update via the F&N app)

  • Mu-so & Qb 1st Generation - 2.1 or higher (Update via the F&N app)

What do the numbers refer to e.g. 4.4.0 and 2.1? Are they firmware version numbers?

They are indeed the required firmware versions, as the Naim statement you quote says.
