Muso (Gen1) Dead

Well, my much loved Gen 1 Muso appears to have given up the ghost. No power/lights at all, fuse changed, all connections checked etc.

Anyone else had this problem ?

I wondered if there was an accessible internal fuse that could be blown, but from what I gather there is not. I would imagine a Naim repair (if they still do that for Gen 1s) would be prohibitively expensive.

It has served me very well for 13 years or so, so I guess I shouldn’t grumble too much, just wincing at the cost of a replacement.

I would give Naim Support a call. I assume you’ve tried to reset it by poking the little pokey pin thing in the little hole in the back.

That’s a good call HH - I’ll give that a try first before contacting Naim.

Unfortunately the simple pokey pin thing didn’t work. I called Naim support and spoke to an extremely pleasant and helpful chap called Richard. He talked me through a hard reset procedure (unit off at the wall, press the pokey pin thing and keep pressed while turning on again at the wall, hold for 12 seconds or so then release). The unit came back to life and did some spinning lights type thing, then settled down with a white indicator light :+1:. Played the radio for a few seconds but it then shut down again with red indicator light. Richard thought it could possibly be overheating (30oC in this room today). Anyway advised to try again when the room is cooler and if no joy then call them back tomorrow. Very impressive customer service imho.

Well at least it’s not completely dead. On life support maybe. Fingers crossed that you can get it going. The Naim Support guys are really good.

Yes indeed - I’m not holding my breath but there’s a glimmer of hope. Very impressed with the amount of time Richard from Naim Support spent on the phone talking me through the reset etc. I guess there may not be many companies that offer this level of personal support these days, especially for a 13 year old product!

Kiss of death I know, but she’s back up and running for now :crossed_fingers:
