My Cdx2 lost the sound on left channel

Continuing the discussion from CDX2 problem:

What does that mean Neil?

This evening, there was suddenly no sound coming from the left channel when I was playing a CD on my trusty CDX2. I tried a different interconnect – RCA to DIN – and suddenly there was sound only from the left; the right channel cut out. What could this indicate? I’ve tried other inputs on the back of my 252 and the DIN connection, with the same result: no sound in the left channel. I’ve checked the cable; nothing to be seen… Oh dear, my excellent-sounding CDX2 is playing up.

Dry solder?

Return Merchandise Authorization - it’s basically a number assigned to the particular job when a unit is returned to Naim HQ. It helps us to keep track of it.
They will only be issued to a dealer/distributor though, not an end user.

Sorry to hear of your CDX2 problem, it could be a DAC failure.

Regards
Neil.

Clutching at straws here but Google suggests reseating the Burndy link plug.

Hi Christopher

I hope its only that. But what I can’t understand is that the sound had gone on the left. When I then tried a different cable – RCA to DIN – the sound came back on the left, but the right channel was dead. I’m not very technically minded, but I’m just trying things out. I will try the burndy plug and follow up here

It didn’t help with the Burndy plug either. Im guessing it must be failure from the DAC

As many of you mention, Im also afraid for the shipping all the way to Salisbury. Off course I will secure the The CD tray with the secure bolt. Are there any other tips you can offer before I send it to England? I know in advance that everything is fine with it, both functionally and cosmetically. Apart from this current DAC malfunction, that is.

Before I decide to send it in, I just want to check whether you think it might be a faulty relay – and therefore perhaps not quite as major a job as replacing a DAC.
As I said, I tried swapping my current DIN cable for an RCA-to-DIN cable, and switched the CDX2 to receive the signal via RCA (oo). After that, the sound started playing on the left again, but then the right channel cut out – no sound.
I’ve checked the cable I use for the NDX2 to rule out a cable fault. I also tried different inputs. Same issue: no sound from the left, only from the right. Only when I swapped the cable for an RCA-to-DIN (oo) one did the sound return to the left channel. Could this indicate that a relay in the CDX2 is faulty?
Are there any other procedures you can recommend to troubleshoot or rule anything out? Thank you for your attention

I would disconnect the right channel. You would have inky black blackness for free.

Or try a cheap transport into Ndx2 , like the SMLS P200, for around 400 GBP.

Frenchrooster. I can hardly believe that this setup will sound like my CDX2. I love my CD player far too much.

Or even better ripp the CD’s and use a USB stick into the NDX2 ,outperforms even an CD555 :victory_hand:

Igel.. thank you for the advice. But what about the sound signature from CDX2 which I love. It will then be NDX2 signature if I understand it correctly

One thing I did not try is that I didn’t connect CD from rca to 252 rca. Maybe the sound will come back

Try it ,I don’t think you will love any CD-Player after that.

So how do you do. I mean you have to be very systematic on files, searching, integration with Tidal etc. etc.. ? I know there is a lot of how top rip in different threads, but if you have some advices it would be nice

A new world to me

You just choose the album or track from the Naim app or by the remote and the screen on the NDX,
much more convenient than a CD player.

You can download the ripping program DB Poweramp for free trial.

I understand, but will they service it ? If yes, you will be very lucky. The mech will inevitably fell in the near future. And won’t be replaced. So maybe it’s time to move.

I won’t say that. A usb stick in the Ndac/ 555ps, would be at the same level.

Of course a USB stick in the nDac will also outperform any CD player, that said an NDX or NDS
have an even better USB reader.

Even if you’re ripping in 16-bit and using the front USB port on the NDX2?
