My speaker upgrade audition plans

My wallet is trembling…

I have the NC 250. I’m prepared for the demo to be a fail. I just have to rule them in or out in my room. If not, I will try others. My dealer is happy to help.

You should be in for a treat, with both - hope the audition goes well!

Updated profile to make clear :grinning:.

Your demo is a system setup I have previously owned and enjoyed. Although I was happy with the SQ etc I was “infected” by “upgraditis”. Mrs O was not too enamoured with the potential increase in boxes (potentially a 332 and 333 not to mention potentially another 300) so on a hunch (after reading words from @DiggyGun) and with the assistance of my dealer I tried the Linn one box option driving the Kudos Speakers in active mode, see my profile. I liked what I heard and Mrs O has fewer boxes.

Hope your audition/demo goes well and the result is what you are looking for. But for my temporary ailment I would still be where you are demoing.

So, to your ears, the Linn box sounds better than 222/300/250?

Yes, it is not a massive night and day type change. The 222/300/250 was very good but to my ears the Linn is just that bit better. If I had to be pushed I might say that the Naim system is maybe a little brighter than the Linn, I have a bit of tinnitus and the Linn is less troublesome. I totally accept that others with different ears, different preferences and different rooms etc may prefer the Naim over the Linn. Do note I have moved from passive to active driving the 606’s, that did make things much better for me. Oh, and I have less boxes which was a bit of a sub-goal.

I’ve arranged a home demo of Kudos Titan 606 speakers for Thursday 5th. So we will see if they work well in my room .

My dealer is bringing an NPX 300 to try (again) as well.

The demo was great, the 606s are very natural / realistic, although I only really a couple of hours listening. I’m still in two minds whether to spend that much, even at ex-demo pricing.

You only live once…

But it’s the dying by overreaching myself that worries me :rofl::rofl:.

Hopefully she will come round eventually.

Well, it is not to be, at least this year anyway. It was a nice dream while it lasted, but I have now been brought back down to earth. I’m sure I’ll have another go at justifying the expense next year though :smirk:.

You can’t spend too much on speakers! (Though other halves, inheritors, accountants, etc may disagree!)
