NAC 202 + PMC 25.22 active

Hello.

Is there anybody who can explain me what wire is needed to connect a NAC 202+NAPSC to a pair of PMC twenty5.22 active loudspeaker and where can I find them?

First thing you’ll need is a FlatCap, HiCap, or Supercap to power the NAC202. The NAPSC only powers the digital circuitry. Output from the new PSU to the active speakers’ inputs.

Yes, you will need a Hicap to power the 202. Then you will need a correctly wired pair of DIN to RCA cables. Unless these are to be quite short, they will probably need to be slugged cables, typically with a 100R resistor, but Naim should be able to confirm this.

Another possibility with long cables could be an unbalanced to balanced converter, followed by a balanced cable to the speakers.

If you have the speakers and are looking for a preamp, take a look at the Atom HE.

I had it, but unfortunately I got upgraditis and decided to sell it and get a lumin and an analogue preamp.

Ah. Maybe you could send the Lumin back and get another HE. I’d far rather have that than a Lumin, 202, Hicap and Napsc, a system with three mains leads and every box completely different. As Joni said, you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

Which Lumin? Most (all?) of their streamers (network players) have fully balanced XLR outputs which can be connected directly via a balanced cable to active PMCs.

Lumin D2. I’m using it now as streamer/preamp connected to PMC active via XLR output; the problem is that this way the result I get is a very flat and unpleasing sound… so I thought that inserting a real preamp could be the solution.

The Lumin is hardly an upgrade on the Atom HE if it sounds like crap. Why not just send it back and get another HE.

What about a NAC n-272…maybe a valid alternative to Atom HE?

The HE has much better functionality and has the advantage of a pair of XLR balanced outputs, which is the ideal way to connect to the speakers. SQ of the HE is on a par with a bare NSC222, so should be a good bit better than a 272.
