NAC 272 Unstable after latest firmware update

Since updating the firmware to fix the Tidal issue the connectity and responsivness of the 272 has really gone downhill. I’m continually having problems streaming from Tidal, the app disconnects, sometimes the 272 itself gets hung up on the Tidal screen (I can still switch inputs).

Sometimes when it hangs it seems to “initialize” the input for around 5 mins and then comes back to life.

Anyone else getting worse performance since upgrading?

Don’t forget that most of us did the 4.8 update when it was released, about two years ago. And you don’t read here about lots of people having problems with their 272. Usually it works perfectly and with no connectivity questions, but there are occasional cases where something with the owner’s network is giving trouble.

Three things you could try.

  1. Did you do a factory reset after doing the update, as instructed in the Naim leaflet? If not then try that.

  2. If you are using WiFi to connect your 272 to connect to your network, it would be worth trying temporarily to use Ethernet instead. Long Ethernet cables are very cheap and you can just lay it across the floor or whatever. If that fixes the problem, at least you know where your issue is.

  3. And it’s always worth trying a router reset. Turn off the router, any switch and the 272. Restart the router and when it has fully restarted then turn the switch and 272 back on again. You could restart your phone at this point too.

Switch off the 272.
Switch off the wifi router.
Wait a few minutes.
Switch on the wifi router.
Switch on the 272.

That may do it.

I am having similar freezing problems when streaming from the local NAS. Since I don’t use Tidal, I went back to 4.7, all is fine there.

Sorted the problem. There was a loopback condition on my network wreaking all kinds of havoc. I’m kind of surprised it worked at all. After tracing and sorting my LAN cables its now resolved. It wasn’t a firmware issue (admin feel free to remove thread).

I can’t agree with that.

you will find a few people with the problems that plexxx mentioned

@plexxx i have reseted my nac about 3 times. Its Ok now, but not as good as with 4.7.
Listening to UPNP will freeze the nac randomly. Tidal is more stable but still freezes when e.g. adding a large playlist, skipping tracks etc.

the good thing while listening to tidal is, my nac recoveres after a few seconds after freezing.

A few. But there are thousands of 272s out there and most will be running 4.8 as that update was released a long time (years) ago. Most people don’t have the problems you are mentioning.

Sounds like a theory, where is the proof? I guess most owners have never done an firmware upgrade.

Fact is, there are more and more threads in this forum from 272 owners with issues with 4.8

Sounds like a theory and a daft one at that!
