Is there a significant improvement between the XS2 and NAC 282 preamp?

You should expect a huge improvement in sound.
My journey through Naim included a Naim Nait XS 2 and SuperNait 2. When I added a NAC 282 to my SN2 I thought it was a fantastic upgrade. I did already own a HiCap DR with my SN 2. A short time after I added the NAC 282 a one year old 250 DR was traded in to my dealer and I traded in my SN 2 towards the purchase. Once again that was another lovely uplift in the sound.
If you do a search on ‘XS 2 with 282’ or ‘SN 2 with 282’ you will find some threads with information regarding upgrade.

Be wary of the wonderful NAC282 unless your sources are up to snuff.
Mine was sublime with a CDS3, Sondek and NAT05.

If you are budgeting the spend, consider also you may need to purchase van extra box to power the 282 eg a hicap or suitable power amp.
If this is a stepping stone towards a full system upgrade, then it is possible to power a 282 using an xs integrated.

You’ll going to need as a minimum really a 282 with Napsc. And nap 200 power amp.
Would recommend 282 with napsc, HiCap 2 or DR and nap 250.2 or DR.
Other option is go Olive 82, Hicap and 250 Olive or Chrome Bumper to save funds.
