NAC 332 headphone output channels flipped the wrong way around

As just above in my pic:

anyone here have reversed left & right channels through the headphones using the balance buttons?

Hi @Stephen_Tate

Out of curiosity, I thought I would check my NAC332 headphone socket → pressing left arrow on the remote makes the sound go left in the ear, and to the right the with the right arrow button. No issue here, sorry!

That’s great Geoff, thanks for that, really appreciate your reply. It stands to good measure that I’ve been in touch with my dealer and have done the right thing.

Thank you

You have an early 332 where a firmware update was needed to fix a L/R switch. Back to a Naim dealer and a factory visit in afraid.

How can it be an early 332, he only bought it 2 or so weeks ago? These have been out over 3 plus years now, so i cant imagine the dealer had it in stock all that time?

It also has the new serial numbering system that Naim now use.

All I know is that there was a problem with some early 332’s that required a firmware update. I’ve no idea when you bought it or who from.

It’s not my 332. But you did say ā€œ You have an early 332…..ā€. Hence my challenge.

When I used to work in trade it was something I came across.

Ok the good news is i have a new replacement 332 on its way. :slightly_smiling_face:

A quick update:
i received my new replacement NAC332 yesterday and it sounds excellent straight out of the box. Unbelievably, i still had reversed headphone channels. I think someone is having a laugh behind my back here, so i swapped my speakers around on my headrest and viola - Bingo! All fixed!

Just to clarify here, the headphone issue was only one of two issues i had with my first 332. The other issue was a loose screw/bit of cut wire/or solder debris could be heard when the unit was inverted from one way or the other, when first unpacking from its box. This was completely unacceptable for me and i wanted a replacement and so got onto my dealer, and here i now am.

This new replacement 332 is perfect in every way and i’m sure it’s sounding better than the other one did from new but this just maybe a placebo effect on my part

To wrap up, i’m very pleased this whole saga has now passed me and i can now carry on with enjoying my music with this wonderful pre-amplifier that is connected to my new NC250.

Big respect goes out to Naim for honouring a replacement unit, and of course my dealer for sorting such matters, he’s been absolutely amazing!:call_me_hand:

So, the headphone channels weren’t flipped?

I don’t know. It’s all a bit bizarre to be honest. I’ve had my Grado SR325 SR cans for over ten years and in that time I’ve had a NAIT 5Si/XS 2/SN3 and the channels have been perfectly fine.

Only with my new 332 that they have flipped over, and yes even with this replacement unit it’s the same. I’ve decided to get around it by swapping my speakers around on my headset and this has fixed the problem.

Stephen, did your dealer check the HP output on your other unit?

I know you’re sorted, but just as an experiment you could try a different pair of headphones. :slightly_smiling_face:

Best wishes,

Tony

Hi Richard,
My other unit was swapped over with the new unit at the same time yesterday with the delivery guy.

Maybe my dealer will receive it today. The thing is my dealer isn’t exactly local and so this has turned out to make things that little more difficult in diagnosing what’s going on between us? Hence why i visited here trying to look for some answers

Thanks Stephen, just wondering whether there’s a batch or build issue somewhere or something else at play. I guess your dealer will get to the bottom of it.

Yes perhaps i should. Problem is i only currently have one set here. :slightly_smiling_face:

One thing i will say here, which isn’t of any help to this bizarre scenario, is that this replacement unit is sounding so much better than the other one. I’d be very reluctant to send it out for yet another replacement :grimacing:

If you’re happy with the new unit, that’s great.

If it were me I think I would borrow a different pair of headphones as that could just put it to bed.

BTW I will try headphones with my 332, will report back if I have the problem
