I see The general wisdom is that the 282 is more exciting, the 252 is more refined but some find it a tiny bit boring, and the 552 is the best of both.
I only ever owned a 252 and maybe I should stop reading 552 threads but possibly you can dig out something useful from here:
I understand this topic has been discussed repeatedly, but I want to ask again in the context of my specific setup. I would like to seek opinion from those who have actually gone thru this path, not just opinion in general on the basis of guessing.
Your answer is highly highly appreciated.
Need to sell 282 + HCx2 for funding

Option3
Need to sell 282 + HCx2 + CDX2 for funding

Due to obvious money reason, keeping 2…
I have owned both the 252 SCDR and 552DR… they are both huge steps up in performance from the 282 HCDR which I have also owned.
The 252 and 552 are very different however… I be cautious about some of the hyperbole you read about 552.
However in a Naim system, the NAC is first… not source or power amp. Get the best NAC you can that suits your style, and it will bring the rest of the system along with it… (assuming your speaker room coupling isn’t ‘broken’)
So to the NACs. The 252 is more eupho…
Hello,
I decided to upgrade from 282 / HiCAP DR / 250DR to 252 / SUPERCAPDR / 300DR.
In my system I already have a NDS with 555PSDR and a Powerline to each component.
Will the change in musical terms be small / medium / large in your opinion?
Is the 252 very far from the 552?
It’s a long time since is swapped from a Supercapped 82 to a 52. But I remember at the time the feeling of greater resolution and insight compared to the 82. Over time that feeling became one of slight boredom. Great detailed hifi but somewhat lacking on the enjoyment front. Initially I used it with a 250, which then became a 300, which improved matters a lot, but a feeling of nice but dull persisted. So the 252 went and the 552 came, and with the 300 was absolutely stunning. All the resolution …
I went 282, 252 and, in the end, 552. I really liked the liveliness and attack of the 282. As noted above, the 552 is the end of the line unless you have vast resources. It’s my stopping point and I am happy to be there
