Does any one know if I can listen to Apple Music videos through a Naim 333 streamer ( which I’m considering ) while watching the video on Apple TV?
The 333 supports Airplay 2, so you should be able to stream to it from the Apple TV.
You could install the Apple Music app on the Apple TV and connect your tv through optical out to your 333.
Do you know if that uses the Apple TV music stream instead of the 333 and would it make a difference.
If you’re using either the Apple TV or Apple TV app then yes that’s the Apple Music stream.
I assume it’s compressed audio in which case any digital output would be somewhat wasted on a 333?
Another option for best sound quality is to pass the ATV through a bluray player and output a digital stream from the bluray to the NSS333.
I use an Apple TV 4K HD hard-wired via HDMI to my TV and Ethernet cabled to my router and you have a couple of options. Connect to your 333 via the optical cable to your TV output, which will pick up the output from your Apple TV. I have re-named one of my optical inputs on the 333 to TV for this purpose. This works as a general TV playback option for other things like Xbox and PlayStation that are connected to our TV.
Secondly, but better from a SQ perspective, is to set the Apple TV sound output to Stereo playback and pick your playback device. All my different NAIM kit show as an option for sound playback and so just select your desired playback device. I would turn off the TV output option as there is some lip-sync lag this way. FYI this goes via your Ethernet through the router, your switch and into the streamer. To my ears it is a step-up in sound but more of a hassle because you have to repeat the selection process every time you turn the Apple TV off/on, so for general listening I tend to use method 1.
search for HDMI Audio Extractor on Amazon. They come in different price classes.
