Naim and Dynaudio Thread

I have positioned them 50cm in from the back, and a little more from the sides. Would probably benefit from coming in further, but this is all my better half will tolerate. Generally, they sound pretty balanced, but from certain positions, especially furthest away towards the rear, on base heavy tracks, the low frequencies are too strong. Agree that they are fine speakers.

I do have drawn curtains behind both speakers which I think helps to control excessive bass.

The Excite X38 have been wonderful so far but I’m keeping an eye on the Evoke 50. Although the C2 have more detail and finesse, the Evoke 50 give a more complete sound having a dedicated mid driver while not being too far behind in resolution either.

I would say demo them both, not having a dedicated mid may not prove what you are saying! I went from x38s with a dedicated mid driver and I think the c30s are better in every way. But you need to find out what fits your ear best.

You need a 500 system to get the most out of those :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

:joy:

Already did. I stand by my assessment.

Pretty easy answer for you then, find a deal on evoke 50😁

Spoke to a Dynaudio dealer today, Special 40’s are no longer available apparently, red or grey. I’m sure there’s a few still lurking in dealers but that’s about it. He mentioned they will be announcing a possible replacement or re release at Munich in May

Damn … that’s a pity … very curious to see what May will bring to us … either from Dynaudio or Naim

I spoke to Dynaudio last year and they told me that some of the S40 components were in limited supply and production would be forced to stop at some point. However, as it has been a popular speaker then perhaps they will find a way to make a S40 Mk2

Wouldn’t a Special Anniversary speaker by its very nature have a limited run? Keeps them special, just look at Special 25. Then again, I’m sure in terms of QTY sold, the S40 greatly surpassed S25. So S25 will always be a bit more special!

Isn’t it the S25 that got a second production run because they were so populair?

Yes, I bought one of the last pair after a lenghty comparison with the C1s.

What do you use to drive these with?

I am using 282/250DR for my S40s.

How did it compare to the mighty C1

The S25 has a studio monitor sound with more dynamic bass punch and a very linear midrange. The C1s are more laidback but has somewhat better imaging properties.

The S25s are efficient and even a Nait 2 has no trouble driving them to high volume levels. Too bad they are 4 ohms speakers, otherwise they could also be paired with low power tube amplifiers.

Thanks, from your description I would also go for the S25

Has anyone compared Dynaudio active vs passive speakers ?
