Naim and Dynaudio Thread

This is not true. The grey are very much still in production.

I have owned Dynaudio focus 160’s, C1 MK11’s, currently own excite 12’s and XD 600’s. All great speakers, the XD’s have much greater dynamics than all the others, and work really well with my Core/NDS, using the NDS digital out.

I bought grey, and it is much more appealing in real life than the word ‘grey’ implies. It is a warmer colour, not at all bland, and anybody feeling unhappy that they missed out on the red ones should try to see them in the flesh.

The gray are beautiful. I’ve seen, but not heard them. The Contour 60 in gloss gray are also stunning. I considered buying a pair.

The grey contours are oak, but the special 40’s are ash…not the same finish, the contour finish is much nicer to me. Just for reference, I owned grey S40’s, so I am not just throwing that out there.

I understand that, and wasn’t claiming otherwise. I’ve seen each at my dealer, and both finishes are stunning. The red S40 are also stunning, but a bit overboard for my taste. In the end I visually prefer my piano black C2 for how that match my REL subs and Naim gear with black/black Fraim. And that piano black is a sight to behold. The piano black RELs close up look shabby in comparison. One can really see the contrast in quality of finish. :slightly_smiling_face:

The grey oak high gloss Contour 60 is the one I went for. Works for me !

Has anyone tried just using a turntable with your dynaudios through the SN3? Just wondering how well it drives them? With mine and the NDX2 is really full and weighted, frankly amazing with lots of depth. Just the turntable with the SN3 isn’t as satisfying in all honesty. Not nearly the weight/authority/bass. You think this is the turntable? (Clearaudio concept) or that the SN3 performs a lot better with the NDX2s power+psu? Or it’s just the presentation of the SN3 on it’s own in general. Just curious as to who else is using solely the SN3 with dynaudios and how they’re getting on… I have used the turnatable with Roksan blak before and although not perfect did have a lot more ‘grunt’. With the NDX2 there’s no issue whatsoever. Just like playing records sometimes, and find myself less involved or impressed so switch back to streaming through the NDX2. My turntable is fairly close to the speaker through necessity on top of a stand. Could this be the issue? Or is it the s40s need a bit more added combined drive. It’s still sounds good. Don’t get me wrong. Just not as good/depth as I’d like

Still loving my Dynaudio Contour 20’s mated to my Nova. Seven months in now and they are ace performers! Getting the position right was critical, pal and I spent a day doing this.

Micro movements and listening?

Hi drlaj
Have you finally received your confidence 20’s? If so, how are they working out for you?, because not too many people seem to have a pair. I am a previous Confidence C1 owner, and current XD 600 and excite 12 owner. While I am at it, how do you go about adding the list of your gear to your profile?, I can’t seem to figure that out.

  1. mouse click on the circle in the top right hand corner. (Green Background with White 'N.
  2. Your UserName will appear on the top line, perform a mouse click
  3. Menu appears select ‘Summary’
  4. Top Right hand corner, select ‘Expand’
  5. On this screen select ‘Preferences’
  6. Select Profile - Then add your system config in the about me box.
  7. Complete any other fields you like and at the bottom select ‘Save Changes’

Thanks Seakayaker, it worked, and maybe you have helped others figure it out.

Hi! Speakers are in the house, and sounding very good at times. They’ve only had 50-100 hrs on them so far, so still a bit of a rollercoaster. I’m optimistic though

Interesting, what made you decide to pick the Contours over the Special 40’s?

I cannot remember the listening days in detail any more but I liked the sound of the Special 40’s and I loved the sound of the Contours.

I do remember I began listening to the Special 40’s, then listened to the ATC’s which I did prefer above the Special 40’s and lastly I listened to the Contours which put together the strong points of both the Special 40’s (very controlled low end) and the ATC’s (very smooth but clear high end).

At the moment I am still enjoying the Contours with the NAC-N272 and the NAP200DR, no need to upgrade.

I auditioned Contour 20 vs S40. My dealer loves Jazz, and for top quality recordings the C20 was amazing. I like older rock and blues, and for older recordings the S40 retained the vibe and excitement whereas the C20 started to show up the limitations of the source. I could have lived with either but my heart said that the S40 was more my taste.

Any Dynaudio experts here who can share their thoughts about a possible re-release or a replacement for the S40’s?

In 10 years? It’s an anniversary model.

After somebody mentioned they were discontinued last week, I brought it up on the Dynaudio (AVS) forum. Nobody had heard that, and one member (Jnelson2000) said it is simply not true. I tend to believe Jeff, since he is very close to the dealer in Chicago,Tyler.
I should add that my local dealer told me a while back that the red ones are no longer available.
