I have ordered a Dynaudio Sub 6 to accompany the Contours. The low level performance improved drastically after adding the AudioQuest Castle Rock speaker cables and this made me curious as to what a good subwoofer would add. The Sub 6 has a DSP built in with a preset for my Contour S 3.4 LE speakers.
The Atom pre out will be connected to the stereo inputs of the sub (RCA-XLR cable) and the sub outputs will be connected to the Purifi power amp (XLR-XLR) which is connected to the loudspeakers. The DSP accepts setting on distances for listener to sub, sub to left speaker and sub to right speaker.
I am really curious to see what it adds to the current setup.
The sub 6 has arrived. One word: WOW! The seamless integration between sub and main speakers is the best I ever heard. The sound has improved so much and the music flows so seamless now. Really really love it.
I’m usually not a fan of white speakers (or cars either) but those speakers look terrific and also fit in well with your decor. It’s nice that the sub matches and is relatively unobtrusive. Hope you get to enjoy them for years to come. They could definitely be end-game speakers.
Has anyone seen the YouTube video of Danny from GR research modding the dynaudio special 40’s?
Thoughts?
I think it is good that people are doing this sort of thing as it might mean manufacturers will start to put more emphasis on well designed crossovers. Everything is built to a price point obviously, and quite a bit of money has gone into the cabinet finish but It does seem to have some peaks and breakups that for that price you wouldn’t expect.
It makes me start to think that these flaws are purposeful so that when the same drivers are used in speakers in the next price bracket they sound better with little more than an improved crossover.
I was thinking of getting s40 for my Atom as well but it seems that everybody says that the Atom does not have enough juice to power those speakers. What is your experiance?
Sorry for delay in answering, but think they pair well. I had Aud 52’s with Nait 5i for years and loved the sound.
Currently have UQ2/NAP100 and DM2/7 which is quite similar again as possibly same bass unit in both Dyns?
Thanks Anonymoot unfortunately it will be a while (August hopefully) that I can bring the UQ and the Audience 52’s together as one is here and the other in Spain.
I’m currently using the 52’s with another amp over there but it’s a bit of a mess of boxes and wires what with Dacs, PSU’s and a Bluetooth receiver so the UQ should tidy all that up and plus my TV and Apple TV can go straight into the UQ.
Did you use stands with the 52’s? Mine are currently sitting on sorbothane domes on a sideboard but Im considering isoacoustic pucks on granite slabs.
UPDATE -
I was waiting for Heritage special to show up at dealer. Instead found a deal on confidence 20 for a bit less so taking a chance on them instead. My only concern is much of my listening has to be done at relatively low volume, which the HS seems to excel at.
I have a Linn Klimax streamer (Naim not doing a desktop app means that a Naim streamer is not fit for purpose) and a 552 / 500. Currently B&W 804’s and tried the Heritage, which were very good but not good enough to change for. About to try Confidence 20…
Somewhat off-topic, but I agree that a desktop app would nice for Naim streamers. Still, as noted earlier on the forum, the new M-1 processor Macs will run the Naim iOS app very nicely.
The speakers were delivered and set up today. Low level listening is enjoyable, but a bit of a twist on the volume does bring about more pleasure. They are definitely less forgiving than the harbeth m30.1 but the harbeths could be a bit too polite and these are more demanding of quality from beginning to end, but nothing seems unlistenable. Bass can now not only be heard but felt. Still not ideal for pipe organ music, but it suits me fine.
