I did wonder that Chris, but wasn’t it the case that if you searched for the album it would get several identical looking results and you would guess which one was non-MQA. In this case a search in the Naim app just find one album
Thanks so much everyone. At least I now know it is not just me or something with my set up. This is my first time posting here, so very positive first experience! @GadgetMan if I want to report to Naim support, what is the best way? Just the email address?
Glad you liked the music @R.K . Same them live when they toured Australia. Worth doing if they ever tour again.
The other weird thing is that both used to play through the Naim app just fine, then one day they didn’t.
Here are the contact details;
You’re right. But there was definitely an Atmos indicator when I checked.
Edit: screenshot from iPhone using Tidal app.
However when using the Naim app on a Mac M2 I see MAX, instead. Still won’t play.
There is also a setting in Tidal to permit and play Dolby Atmos tracks.
This screen shot from the iPad Tidal app.
The Dolby Atmos marker also showed against the album, when I searched for the artist and then albums.
Currently unable to access my Naim streamer, so u able to add further.
Ah yes, I see that in Tidal on my iPhone, although not in the Mac version of Tidal.
So it does look like this is a Dolby Atmos version, however if it plays on Naim via Tidal Connect, then it must sending a downgraded standard 24bit track link that Naim can play. If that is true, then what cant the Naim app search find this non-DA version, and equally why does the search even pick up the DA version. It sounds like the Naim App search function has issues when it comes across DA versions.
Which assumes that what Tidal provides, such that the Naim ‘reads’ is in a form which the Naim app expects.
Would suggest summarising your findings and copy both Tidal and Naim (support) with the information.
At this stage there is no definitive indication that the Naim app is the issue!
When MQA was in use, usually there were two or more versions of the same album, when that isn’t the case, it may be Tidal only have ‘rights’ to the version available. Speculative to suggest what then happens, if cd or hi-res versions are not catalogued, beside a DA version.
edit - Qobuz lists a hi-res version! Tidal may have only DA.
Thanks, have raised with Naim support as suggested. Will update here if/ when I get a response. Just noticed same issue with another album (Dotr by LP Giobbi) so needs a fix. Thanks again.
Perhaps as suggested, an email to Tidal as well; they may be able to offer some insight.
The fix may be at the Tidal end, rather than the Naim app, which can’t ‘deliver’ if the information it is expecting, isn’t being sent by Tidal!
Yes, will go to Tidal as well. They seem to have an online form rather than email, so couldn’t do as one.
I’ve used “support @ tidal .com” in the past
Hi @Naimbsp
We’ve examined what was going on and got Tidal to do a modification to our ClientID.
Can you try again as it should be working correctly now.
Regards
Steve
Thanks Steve - I just tried it from the Naim app, and it working - many thanks for your quick fix/intervention
Thanks @Stevesky ! All working fine now. Appreciate the quick fix.
