Naim app streaming

I’ve recently noticed a couple of my favourite albums won’t play on the Naim app. Have tried reinstalling app and clearing cache. They play fine on Tidal app streaming through Bluetooth. Any solutions?

Hi @Naimbsp …. welcome to the Naim forum.

Nothing actually plays “from” the Naim App, it’s only a Control Point that controls wherever you are sourcing the album from to stream to your streamer(s)
Where are you sourcing the album/tracks from?
What other equipment do you have apart from the Atom and Mu-so QB listed on your profile?
And Bluetooth is not the best for streaming

Just trying to play them from Tidal. Nothing else in play apart from Atom and QB can’t understand why I can play from Tidal app but not from Naim app.

What app (iOS or Android) and what rev number

iOS 18.5

That’s the tablet/phone make (iOS) and it’s software release number, I want to know the iOS Naim app version number.

Open Naim app on home page
Touch settings (gear wheel in top right corner)
This opens a screen titled Settings
Touch ‘About’ this shows App Version number.
Latest is 7.5.1

Hi Mike-B. It is 7.5.1 (12102).

Are they greyed out in the Naim app? It’s not uncommon for one version of an album to be replaced with another.

OK, you have all the latest stuff so it should work.
I am not a Tidal user so am not the best at this, but it seems like you need to recheck your Tidal login details, I suspect it’s either a Tidal or Apple problem.
Have a search around the forum and maybe some more Tidal experienced person can help.

Simplest thing to do @Naimbsp, is to ‘unfavourite’ the albums in the Tidal app, close the app, close the Naim app, shut down your control point and restart. No need to delete any apps.
Restart control point, open Tidal app and simply select those albums again, nothing more - no play.
Open the Naim app and after a short delay, the Naim app should show these as favourites, within the Tidal section of the Naim app, under albums.
There is a limit to the number of items on a playlist; i don’t recall if there is a limit on number of albums. However, if the number is considerable, it may be worth some editing.
When describing Tidal plays, while Naim doesn’t, you are able to see what you are doing. When asking for advice we can’t, so worthwhile including sensible detail, like using Tidal connect ‘works’ . Bluetooth and airplay, are not comparable with either Tidal connect or using the Naim app. The quality choice is between Tidal connect and the Naim app.

edit @Mike-B has rightly asked you for version number of the app; it would be useful if you detailed the version numbers for the two streamers listed in your profile - pleeeze, the ‘latest’ is not a version number, which regrettably more than a few on the forum seem to think it is!

Thanks @Mike-B and @sound-hound . My Atom is 3.11.0. Mu-so QB 7076 is 4.5.0. I’m using my iPhone as a control device. Have tried your suggestion @sound-hound . Unfortunately it didn’t work. By this I mean they wouldn’t play through the Naim app. However both albums that are stuck in the Naim app will play using Tidal connect. When I try to play there the album appears but songs won’t play. Sometimes it cycles through the songs on the album with none playing. All very frustrating. Any further thoughts?

Thanks @Richard . Albums not greyed out. Just won’t play.

The word “both” in your posts imply that the problem is limited to a couple of albums. Is this correct? Can you play other albums through the Naim app? If so, can you identify the albums that won’t play? Perhaps another Tidal user (not me - I switched to Qobuz) can try with the same albums.

Thanks @jegreenwood. The two that are playing up are Everything is Alive by Slowdive and Mother by Logic 1000.

… and yes, I haven’t had any problems playing other albums through Naim app so far.

Edit: just noticed that both albums are Dolby Atmos which explains it, I think.

They both play using Tidal Connect.

Just tried to play via Naim, only one album came up in the search and as you say it doesn’t play.

Typically I would expect a few albums with the same title come up in a search, but different formats, then you have to guess which one works

Strange that it does give any clues why, but it just tries to play each track for a coupe of seconds, then moves onto the next one.

Same here. Some albums won’t play in the Naim app. When I open the album in the Tidal app and then connect to Tidal Connect on my Uniti Star then it works well. So I guess the problem lies in Tidal Connect in the Naim app

I cant see why it would work with Tidal Connect, and not from the Device via the app. After all, Tidal connect just sends the url link to the Naim device to play.

I dont see anything around Dolby Atmos. Where do you see that?

May be worth reporting it to Naim Support in case there is an underlying issue.

My guess is that Tidal Connect recognises a device that doesn’t support Dolby Atmos and automatically sends a compatible version instead, just like it did with Naim and other streamers that didn’t support MQA. If this is the case, obviously it’s an oversight that it doesn’t also work in the Naim app.
