Naim CD5 stopped playing

Hello. My CD5 has stopped playing. The lights are on but nobody is at home. The “NAIM” logo is lit but no lights on display. I have checked the IEC fuse and that looks ok. The music was playing, it then simply stopped. In truth I understand this maybe terminal as the CD5 is no longer supported(?). Any advice or help would be gratefully recieved. Thank you.

Is it time to move to another CDP?

Calling @NeilS … (even though it’s a bank holiday weekend and, frankly, a big ask.)

Quite an unusual symptom. Difficult to diagnose remotely, but it doesn’t sound transport mechanism related, more likely in the power supplies.
I’m not sure if we are issuing RMAs for these any more, you would need to open a support ticket to enquire.

Regards
Neil.

Is it the original CD5 or the CD5i ?

I was advised a few weeks ago by Naim that they are no longer making repairs to the CD5.

Mine is a CD5X and had just had the right channel repaired by Naim about a year ago. Now the left channel has gone.

It is a pity as the mechanism is fine and the player is immaculate.

I think Naim are still offering a trade against a streamer but that is no good to me as I have an ND555.

All is not lost as my dealer has a chap that does repairs for them so I am crossing my fingers he can fix it.

Hopefully yours is an easy fix.

Does it initialise when you close the drawer door? (and then try to read the TOC)

If not, it may be that the little magnet that triggers when the door is closed has come loose. A relatively easy fix, I believe…

That was common on the CD5i - hence my question above.

Hello Neil. It is a CD5

The CD player is “on” but that is it. No bars in the display or lights on the buttons

Hmmm… that does sound like the trigger to try to spin up and read the TOC is not happening, so could possibly be the magnet. There’s a trick you can do if you put a small magnet by the outer edge of the drawer and it may get it to trigger - if so, the little magnet inside the side of the case has come adrift. If not then it could be something has failed somewhere.

Hi Richard. Thank you for the response. I have spoken to a dealer and they have someone local who will take a look for me. Best i can do as i don’t have the skills myself.

OK, hopefully they know about the door and trigger mechanism.

Take it no link plugs missing / set up for external PSU?

Using an external PSU. Have removed it, refitted the plug but still no one home
