Naim Chrome Bumper

Just an attempt at inline image placement. Replacement grilles are in second photo.

Why is there no ‘Preview’ option on this forum?

There is. when using the normal web interface, at the bottom of the screen next to the input dialog box there should be a box next to it to the right which shows you how your post will appear - including any images you upload.

Are they the ones from Germany?

I’m waiting for them to make some more.

They look good and much better than the DIY ones I have now.

Never had the pleasure of hearing active Briks.

That’s quite some collection of CB amps! - are you a 250 or 160 man?

What’s the unit next to your pre-amp - without any knob (that I can see anyway)?

I would guess that’s the NAXO.

Murmur – they’re all 250s. I’ve got rid of the CD5/Flatcap/112 related with Mac Mini / DAC and a 202 (for the moment). Have plans to go completely chrome-bumper in the not-too-distant future ;0). Richard’s right: that’s the NAXO…

Murmur – if I had to describe the difference, you get, of course, more control, tightness and detail, but the biggest difference for me is that the speakers go ‘quiet’: the sound doesn’t seem to be coming from them like it does with a passive system, it seems to be its own ‘entity’, if that makes any sense…

Preview: ah, it was hidden, for some reason…

My grilles are from itsmarkie on eBay (don’t know if I can post links here?)… they were about £60 ten years ago. I don’t know if he’s still doing 'Brik grilles, but he had some for SARAs up the other day…

Thanks. That sounds familiar from when I had active Linn speakers - not Briks unfortunately.

I ran a UQ1 digital out into a DAC V1 for awhile (and then a 110). The microRendu that replaced it (USB into the V1) is much better (and the UQ better as an all in one). Of course, if you have them already, go for it, but I wouldn’t purchase a UQ to only use it’s streaming output.

Going full chrome bumper is always a solid move. Great system Tim.

Cheers, Snarfy… I’m just trying to get the bloody system back together… lots of things ‘seem’ not to be working…

Finally child proofed to some degree. Can’t turn on/off the hicap or 250. The only thing he can really damage now is the Apollo which is a small sacrifice to save the CB gear. The stand is not the greatest when it comes to sound quality but the objective right now is just to survive.

Yes, it was more a plug for the DAC-V1 than for the UQ.

And it’s great to open yourself a whole new can of worms with the possibility of trying different streamer frontends, isn’t it?

Bluetooth-version UQ2 was to my ears well ahead of the original UQ both stand-alone and through a DAC, but surely there are better options.

I went the radical way out, switching to analogue only, Sondek and Naim tuner into the CB Nait 2.

What do you guys think of our new retro signage?

Are you going to change the green arc as well?

I have no idea what else may be in the pipeline, but we have silver arcs at the moment.

Regards
Neil.

Argh. It has been some time since I passed through Salisbury (I live outside of Southampton) and passed the Naim buildings. I remember collecting my SU once (long since gone - didn’t go via a dealer) after having a bleeding logo changed and seeing a white APC van being loaded to the brim with Naim boxes for delivery in goods out. The value of that cargo must have been huge.

So happy to be retro/old school now. Good to realise the heritage.

I hope they’re firmly nailed down in place…
