Naim muso v QB

I am in the process of moving and likely to be in a small flat for a few months. So while my system is in storage I need a new compact system.
What are the advantages of a mk2 muso over Qb?

The spec is very similar - so why pay 200 more?

Not sure about the Qb but as I have said before the Muso is the best bit of kit Naim has produced .

At USD200 more than the QB, the Muso 2 is a bargain. While its soundstage cannot match a true stereo setup, it offers a spaciousness that the QB cannot provide.

Or don’t buy a Muso/Qb at all and spend it all on music to play in a few months when you are out of the small flat.

I’d buy what you can see yourself using when you do the final move. I’m happy with both in their respective spaces.

Forget soundstage etc.and the unnecessary stuff like voice control. The QB is the Nait 1 of its era. Can you get better? Yes of course. Can you have more power and fun? Nope.

The QB2 is more satisfying at low level, though it will go loud too, the MuSo fills a room better. I’d pick a QB if it will get used in a bedroom after your main system is back in action unless the bedroom is inhabited by a teenager. To just stand in for a full system the MuSo will do the job a bit better.

I have both, and they’re both excellent. The MuSo goes louder and as such is a better choice for bigger rooms. Aesthetically, I prefer the Qb (with its square upright design) if placed on a kitchen table or island whereas the MuSo with its elongated design looks better if placed on e.g. a row of bookcases (which is where I have mine).

Owning both I find the Muso so much better and well worth the extra money.

We are huge fans of the QB2 at home, it is faithful Naim in terms of sound, has travelled with us everywhere and imho is able to replace any system, anywhere and in any room and space, for any period of time. At all other times it lives in the bedroom and gets regular use. Neck and neck for cuteness with the greatest of the greatest, the Atom HE.

The muso is a much better overall speaker than the qb. I have a qb on my desk and it’s very good, but the stereo image is very very narrow as L+R are right next to each other. The muso by comparison gives a significantly wider image.

We have both. Muso is considerably better.

Thing is i dont have anything at else other than a laptop tp listen to music on and not sure how many months …

Muso much better than a Qb. I too have both. The Qb is excellent; the Muso just a bit finer and much more depth.
Or you could use from the headphone output from your laptop a simple 3.5mm double male cable into e,g, a JBL Flip or similar. Total cost <£100. Bluetooth would be even less, if your laptop has that function.

Having both main systems and Qbs, and being very happy with the Qbs, I can honestly say that if used to separates, you will not do any serious listening on them. The Qb is basically a supercharged clock radio IMO. It does background music amazingly well and if I was doing a commercial installation like in bar or cafe with multiple rooms, I would absolutely choose them over any pro commercial installation. I’m trying to express that I really love my Qbs but even I don’t think it is worth it for less than a year unless you have a use for it afterward like in a kitchen or bedroom or something.

QB2 was purchased here for portable Naim sound in the house. At least that was the idea. I mainly see it in the studies…

What I think is a shame is that Muso and QB2 do not have a headphone connection. As far as I’m concerned, a major design blunder…does someone have find a solution for that?

For the sound, definitely Naim QB2…
…but if I look at the functions in particular, I might have opted for a Yamaha MusicCast 200 TSX-N237D… but I have no idea what it sounds like. Maybe I should give it a listen. This also prevents from having to search for where the QB2 is now in the house…

My Muso 2 is the ‘wood’ version.

A few months is relative.
I’d not spend a new Muso for a short period.
As a amp/speakers will sound better in most instances.
The little Qb, sometime on sale, is quite nice for smaller rooms.

Depends on your budget really, a Qb could be used in office or kitchen later on.
Personally a Rega IO with bookshelf speakers and a Wiim streamer won’t take up much more space and will sound more like music.
A Muso advantage is its able to play very loud if somebody need this.

Went for the Muso in the end.
The price reduction to 899 was a clincher - 200 more than QB but much better.
I can always use it in bedroom on 6-9 months when i move.
All the posiive reviews worried me a bit - what if it isso good it rivals my system?

no danger there - its no where near.

it is v good though so happy with it - but wont lie i predict there will be rivals

Lol - it’s just a boombox, it can’t really do that.

I own one, before anyone says anything.
