Naim NAC 332 pairing the remote control with NAIM cdx2.2

Friends, can you tell me how to link the NAC 332 remote control to the cdx 2.2 player?

I don’t believe it’s possible. The CDX2 uses an IR remote whereas the 332 uses a Zigbee one.

Just a thought if the Cdx2 has system automation output, you could try linking it to the 332 and the app may work the player. Lots of ifs and buts, but I do remember my 272 and cd5xs doing this……

Edit; assuming you have a Naim streamer in the system of course.

What if we use a 3.5mm jack mono optical cable to
automate the system? Connect it to the NAC 332 :right_arrow: cdx2.2.

I don’t have a streamer and I prefer vinyl and CDs.

As HH correctly comments; can’t be done.

So I doubted it, and decided to ask.

Can users of NAIM CD players and nac 332 share how they use this kit?

Understood👍

My understanding is that the system automation for the New Classic kit is not compatible with the Classic kit.

New Classic kit uses dual purpose sockets that provide both optical and electrical connections. Optical connects to other New Classic boxes, electrical is for use with Classic boxes that only offer this option. Whether that includes CD players I wouldn’t know, but I can’t see why not. I’m sure Naim, or a competent dealer, would be able to advise.

I think others above have indicated the remotes/system automation won’t work with 332, but naim support need to confirm this for you.

Tell me, are there any official Naim representatives on the forum?

I’m probably as official as it gets around here - I used to work for Naim for many years, first as their customer service manager and then as export sales manager. These days I’m independent but I still administer the forum and I’m also brand ambassador for the company.

From time to time there are Naim staff who sometimes contribute - Steve Harris of course, Steve Sells, Naim’s director of elctronic design, and also NeilS who has been a pillar of Naim’s service department for many years and sometimes comes on here in his free time to help out. I, of course, contribute by offering the benefit of my experience of many years with Naim, which is perhaps most useful with the older kit. For current equipment though you are probably best contacting Naim support who are far more familiar with the latest kit (see IainO’s post above). Hopefully they will be able to tell you whether it’s possible to connect and control your CDX2 via the remote jacks of the NAC332. Hope that helps.

Thank you. I’ve already written.

You should immediately receive a response with a ticket number. If not, check your junk mail.

Yes, it has arrived.

Here, I use the narcom 5 remote for my CDX2.2 to control all operations except volume which is controlled by the Zigbee remote via the NAC332.

For 99% of my listening I don’t skip CD tracks, and once volume is set, it usually stays the same, so interaction with the two remotes is very infrequent.

The Naim support team responded. Thanks everyone, the problem is closed.

• It will not be possible to use one of our remote controls to operate both units.

The CD x2 uses an IR based remote control system, whilst the products from the Uniti and New Classic ranges use the Zigbee Protocols \[[Zigbee - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zigbee) \]

As such, a remote control from one range will not work with the other. •

Did you ask them about system automation compatibility?
