Naim Olive

Thank you Bruss, a member of another hifi forum mentioned he had them and was no longer using them, it took me about 3 months of chat to finally seal the deal. He’s a great guy and our chat over this time was all about our hi-fi journey.
There have been a few on the UK version of the auction site recently which have sold very quickly for strong money. I had setup notifications on the usual hi-fi webpages for 52’s and they do pop up occasionally, some not looking too well cared for sadly, so tread carefully. I would suggest dropping some 2nd hand Naim specialist an email in-case they know of anything.

Thanks. Will keep my eye out and see what the UK delaers can do.

Very nice! I just got my Olive SC yesterday, and it sounds fantastic with my 82. Next step is the 52.

You’re not wrong! It sounds fantastic. :grinning:

I know. I got one last year as an upgrade to my 82. I was staggered by the difference. The 52 is very special indeed, enjoy every minute with it.

Paul at the Hifi Lounge may be able to help. I think he has one, with a second arriving mid August.

I had my final system, then a really good opportunity came up on a 252 and Olive SC that has been recapped and DR’d. This was the only way I’d get to this level, so here we are. I’m using the SN2 in power amp mode and have a 250 on order.

a system based on 72 / hc / 140 all serviced, to which system of the current line can it be compared?
to a nait xs3? to a 202/200?

In another system, I have XS2 with HC2…
Have compared with my “new to me” 72 - HC - 140, (prior to recent full service) - using same sources - and would say “on a par”, albeit slightly different sonic presentation.

Haven’t done this since returning from service yet. (Need to give it a few weeks, to allow the new internals time to settle in). But, early results sounding like the service was a worthwhile upgrade to SQ. [ UPDATE : Post service, would probably say the Olive system edges it now… ]

So, I put it in the ball park of XS2+HC2 or SN2 or maybe even 202/200 (non DR).

Ultimately, that’s a tough question, as these “new to me” Olive units have a different sound. So, it’s a subjective, slightly abstract question. Perhaps better to think of it as “different” and search for alternative parallels.

But, I certainly wasn’t disappointed I had something less than I was used to.

I hope that helps?

Guess nothing in the current line compares directly, although I haven’t tried them all.
Olive/CB sound different to black boxes in generel.

Surely XS3 will have a very different preamp section, whereas 72 use a separate Hicap.
Powerwise a 200 will have more than a 140 obviously.

If the question relates to new purchase maybe the Uniti’s or 152/155 may be considered too, although the latter are discontinued as far as I know.

A great system and one that will give many years of enjoyment I am sure. I almost had this exact system, the difference was that I had a 32.5 with 72 boards in it. Kept it for around 15 years.
