I ran an 82 with Hicap for 25 years, and enjoyed thousands of hours of music.
An 82 or 282 with a decent source is going to sound considerably better than a 272. The solution is to add a PSU upgrade to the 272. An XPS DR would give it a big boost in sound quality both as a preamp and as a streamer. To my ears it still doesn’t beat an 82/Hicap or 282/Hicap, but it’s still a good option. If you want the new streaming platform, you would need to wait and see if the 272.2 appears.
