I’m just about to send my Atom back to Naim for a repair, there is a standard charge of £549 for this, they have not assessed it and it could be as simple as a dry joint. It is two and a half years old, I bought it pre owned so it hasn’t got the extended warranty.
This is the third piece Naim equipment that has failed, the first was a Nova that went up in smoke when it had twenty minutes use, it was replace with a new one. The second was an Atom HE which sounded “off” this was agreed by the dealer and I had a refund, now the Atom which has lost the right channel after the latest firmware upgrade.
My question is am I unlucky or has the standard of Naim equipment dropped, I’ve owned Naim equipment since the mid eighties and never had an issue until the last few years?
I have my NDX2 replaced. My ND555 replaced. And my NAC552 replaced. After going through all that now is all fine. It does happen. Let’s count both of us unlucky
What constitutes reliable? I have had periodic issues with my NC gear that relate to auto standby. Now that I have moved to instant on and my system being on 24/7, we shall see. My feeling is that perhaps Naim should have waited to release the NC stuff until ALL the issues with auto standby had been addressed. Sometimes I feel like a beta tester.
I have two Naim systems in two separate rooms comprising eleven black boxes. Their age varies from 1986 to early 2000s and not one thing has ever gone wrong with it other than a little red light bulb that blew on the 1986 Hicap. The thing still works so I have left it like that.
