Mike, I agree. I was at a concert with violin and cello at the weekend, in a small church and totally unamplified. My little system really can make a cello sound like a cello. A slightly small one maybe, but still very natural and real. I suspect that if more people heard live unamplified music they’d find it helpful in choosing their home audio.

A few years back I was on my way to see Jeff Beck at the Oxford New Theatre. It was a beautiful mid-June afternoon and as I was walking across the Square by the old fire station there was this young lady violinist playing a Paganini variation. It was simply beautiful, the best musical experience of my life in many a year. Jeff Beck was pretty good to!

I think cello is one of the best instruments by which to gauge a system.
