Nait 5 v1 and external power supply

Hi everyone - I’m the happy owner of a mk 1 Nait 5, and am thinking about possible upgrades, based around the 5.

I’m thinking of adding an external power supply as a starter, and whilst I know that HiCap and FlatCap supplies work, I’m not sure about s SNAPS (as I can see one for sale locally).

I’d add the PSU as a first step, then maybe a separate power amp later. I don’t need CD, Phono or headphone connections.

So the question is - will a SNAPS work with a Nait 5? And presumably I’d need both s SNAIC 4 and a SNAIC 5 for it to do so, as with the other PSU’s.

Thank you

If the SNAPS has been “dual-railed” then you could use it, otherwise, no.

Yes, you will need a SNAIC5 (usually came with the PSUs) and also a SNAIC 4.

p.s. I’ve made an edit to ensure your post complies with forum rules (discussion of unauthorised modifications to Naim equipment, which includes non-Naim power supplies). Please ensure that your posts comply with forum rules. Thanks.

Thank you Richard, and apologies for the error!

Richard - may I ask, is a Flatcap ‘Olive’ eg mk 1 compatible with my Nait 5? Using the SNAICs 4 and 5 of course. Thanks

Yup, no problem, although by now should be in need of a service I would have thought.

Sure, understood, I’ll get to that - thanks again! Thank God for that as I ordered it last night off the Bay….
