Nait 50 & chord qutest

Quick question, just got a qutest for my dad and it came with a generic 5v psu . Tried it with my N50 and it produces a really loud hum. Tried the link wire from earth post to outside of din socket but no difference. Unplugged the digital (coax) into the qutest and it hums louder.
So is the non standard wall wart to blame or is it faulty? Any qutest owners with N 50 with experience ?

I’ve a Qutest on loan at present whilst my TT2 is repaired. Also have a N50 on loan with a view to having it as a backup amp. Zero hum.

The outside of the DIN plug on the N50 isn’t bolted to the chassis of the amp (which is connected to mains earth for safety), so the fix you tried won’t work as it would, say, on a SN3.

Try a wire from the ground post on the N50 to mains earth and see if that helps with the hum.

@Hifi-dog . That doesn’t sound right. I use my Qutest with the original PS from Chord and get no hum or any other noise when music isn’t playing. It’s connected to my N50 with a RCA to DIN wire from Designacable, specifically intended for such use.

Thanks guys, I’ve asked to return it.

Did you try James’s suggestion of connecting the ground post to mains earth?

I have Qutest into my 50, standard ps. No humming.

What RCA to din cable are you using this could be a prime candidate for your issue?

chord chrysalis which works fine with my arcam dac

Worth trying reattaching Arcam DAC just to check in case cable has developed a fault in the process, or if Arcam not available just the cable into the amp with nothing at other end.

Probably rules the cable out then.

I’ve used my N50 with two different dacs with no issues fwiw

Yes, not ideal but it might work.
Also maybe check that any mains sockets you’re using actually have a functioning earth connection.

Using a Qutest and an iFi PSU with my Nait 50 here with no issues. Something doesn’t sound right.

All so running a Qutest with a ifi power PSU with a UcConditioner befor the DAC and work’s fine, (only have a streamer as an input)

connected ifi psu and still hums- put different interconnect and digital interconnect, still hums, connected leads to arcam dac and no hum - seller has refunded and its going back

Had this issue with my chord 2qute

Seems the rca connectors soldering on the chord were broken internally and needed to be repaired

Once soldered again the hum disappeared
