Good review. Thanks @frenchrooster. Product not for me. However I can see it as a great way for a young person to start their audiophile journey if they want to move in that direction.

Interesting and as I read it the original Nait is better ,so the hype is much exaggerated.

@Blackbird Roseanna’s vocals were less strident and much more comfortable for sure, but I feel a little of the fairy dust of her performance was lost compared to the original amplifier. If the original Nait was flame grilled steak on the bone, the Nait 50 was a more delicately seasoned fillet.

We have been through this discussion over and over. Some will say the Nait 50 is GREAT. Others will be less enthusiastic or more negative. Can we just accept the review at face value and move on? I would hope this does not become another LONG Nait 50 thread, but I fear the worst.

If it’s true, flame grilled steak all the time for me.

« Switching to the Nait 50 revealed that the opening piano had much more gravitas, bass extension and timbre than the original Nait was conveying. Roseanna’s vocals were less strident and much more comfortable for sure, but I feel a little of the fairy dust of her performance was lost compared to the original amplifier. «

« Nait 50 the acoustic guitar and percussion were superbly involving with Naim’s legendary facility with timing and rhythm. It’s this ability to control the attack, sustain and decay of notes that makes Naim amplifiers so very special and the Nait 50 is a great example of the breed. It imbues music with a great feeling of musicians playing together and off each other and delivers a very high level of involvement and musical communication. The original was no less capable in this area, but its execution was more ragged and less controlled especially in the high frequency range.« .

I understanding that no one is better, a matter of preference.

Many topics are regurgitated at regular intervals on this forum.
Your thread became a cable discussion… again.
Vinyl v streaming… burning in… ethernet cables…CD transports…yada yada. I now just mute those threads.

@Blackbird The ‘flat–earthers’ of the 1970s, as Naim’s customers became known, were a new audio community more concerned with notes than with measurements, emotion rather than location. Their systems could play in time, maintaining the fundamental structure of the musical performance whilst actually holding a tune. Rather than needing to know exactly where the musicians were standing on the stage, they were more concerned with experiencing the passion that drove them to get up there in the first place.

Keeping both. I would never part with the 1, but is it better than the 50 or my 72/hicap/180…

The 50 is the better amp. But, I can see why some people prefer the 1. It’s like the 50 is a high-res photo in colour, whilst the 1 is a low-res in grey-scale, but some people would rather have the last one on the wall in the living room.

@Blackbird

Yes you do

Even at the full price ( I’ve got 2 of the little blighters 100 km apart ) it’s absolutely astonishing how good it is

I’ve had a number of Naim systems over 40 years ( up to 500 series CD based) , this little N50 box sits up the top as one of their iconic products ( in time of course)

Analogy I could think of.

I would agree that the original Nait wins for nostalgia - I had them both for a while and had a bit of a hard time letting my Nait 2 go for that reason, and may be some of the immediate presence of music in the room that the Nait 1 and 2 have. But my Nait 2 could not drive my main speakers well and the Nait 50 is so much better in performance being also so close in spirit, realism and engagement that it really is for me the quintessential and the best of both worlds Naim has ever produced … so far at least.

Nobody can compare a new Nait1 with a new Nait50 for the simple reason that a new Nait1 no longer exists, even in the memories of its former owners.
