As long as your friend likes Mahler, then I guess they can stay!
lol, mrs SinS and our female friend have retreated to the dining room… it’s just me listening in the music room to Mahler now ![]()
I’ll be just there at the weekend…Not Mahler though,
Excellent, what will you be listening to?
I do wonder too if there’s been a slight design update with the Petites. I can’t tolerate a veiled/ recessed sound and don’t hear that at all. I ordered the standard black given it was a £300 cheaper option. What arrived is a black oak straight edged cabinet rather than the curved moulded looking MDF cabinet in most pictures (and still on Neats on website). They look fabulous and the finish is top class. I’m convinced they weigh less too than the 7kg stated for the original curved version. Has any of this affected the sound who knows, but veiled and lacking in detail they’re not. All subjective of course but it’s a big swing in perception.
I try not to mention/suggest equipment that I own because it might have prejudice because I am happy with what I have.
I decided to break my rule when you mentioned ringing. I have Graham LS5/9 on stands supplied by them. I think they were made by Something Solid. I don’t think I was certain that the stands could be heard ringing, but I could certainly feel the vibration (spiked to a concrete floor). I decided to try Chord Silent Mounts despite the fact they would sit on carpet. The change was audible and physical the feeling of vibration greatly diminished. This was in days before Gaias, but if you could get a loan or sale or return, might be worth a try?
Thanks… I think I have fixed it.. I have re positioned the speaker on the mount platform on top of the stands.
Might see if I can borrow the Falcon stands for possible greater positioning consistency.
Personally prefer the look of the others. Open frame was always the pitch.
Yep I have open frame SolidSteel 60s now.
I have had good experiences with the Gaias III under the SS6 instead of spikes. The bass is tighter and the sound is calmer. However, I don’t have any decouplers between the top plate of the SS6 and the speakers and differenr speakers (no LS 3/5). But it would certainly be worth a try. If I lived nearby, I would lend you mine, but over the distance it doesn’t make much sense…
Thanks for the consideration.
I’m not a fan of tripod stands but it is about performance….and if you prefer them….
I’m the other way round, I have been not a fan of large four pillar stands, or four spike stands, they tend to look over bearing and obtrusive… just like I don’t like floor standers. But I put with them for performance reasons until I found Russ Andrews tripod stands, and then later SoldSteel ones which had at least as good a performance, but visually far more acceptable in our household… and easy to get level - especially when you are in an older building with slightly uneven solid floors.
We are all different ![]()
Looks good, they have really looked at the Linn Kan II design ![]()
The Linn Kan ll stand are designed so the speakers can go very close to the wall.
The stands look great until you add cables ![]()
