Nait50 with UnitiQute2 source

With all the talk about deals on Nait50s due to overproduction I’m wondering whether upgrading my UnitiQute2 office system with one would be a sensible move and a decent match. Speakers are Goldenear Aon3s which were won at the North West Hifi show raffle a couple of years ago. Has anyone attempted this pairing with the UQ2 and could make comment?

UQ2 is an all in one.
If you want to use it as a source, buy a nDac, plug your UQ2 in SPDIF in the nDac, and nDac in the Nait50.

With that, the preamp and amp Of the UQ2 is totally off.

And the UQ2 is an excellent source.

I did this in the past on 72/HC/140

I have used a UQ2 as a source into a Nait 50 and a Nait 2. It worked well but I felt that it was being under used as the amp was not being used at all. Add to that the problems with vTuner at the time I decided to go another route. I bought a Naim DAC-V1 and tried several digital sources: BS Nano, CA MXN10 and Lindemann Limetree Bridge 2. The latter stayed and is small enough to be hidden away (as all 3 can be in fact or on a desktop as their footprints are so small).

I prefer the idea of 2 boxes as either can be updated if needed.

I don’t have a UQ, but I do run an Atom in my office system into wall mounted Neat Iotas. My new 50 is now in the office and I’ve tried it with several sources: the Atom, CD5XS and Auralic Vega G2. Frankly, as I expected, the Atom is the weakest in that role, but the other two take up too much desk space, so I am wondering about something like a Chord Qutest with a Wiim pro plus as network bridge.

BTW one of the possible drawbacks of the 50, no remote, is not an issue in the office as the amp is right to hand and the volume knob is rather lovely.

All depends what other sources you currently use with the UQ2 - if its there as a streamer / amp with UPnP to other devices then its a great single box option.

Nait 50 will need source componetns, so you’re looking at at least two boxes (streamer like Wiim Pro, Bluesound Node and) just to replicate the UQ2

SQ on the Nait50 will be better - depends where its sited; if you are looking to replace a study/office system in a fairly small room then minimal improvements.

That’s absolutely not my experience.

In the small room I use as an office, replacing my Atom with Nait 50 led to a dramatic improvement in SQ. It was more than “minimal” even using the Atom as source. I think a study/office system is an ideal situation for using the 50.

Glad its worked out positive for you Roger. I guess it depends on what people describe as a home office/study. My current one is less than 5m2 on a warm day, so pretty much anything sounds the same with almost zero options for set up. Hence why i use a B&W Zepellin, old skool but cheap as chips and with a iphone 14 in the dock streaming spotify its more than good enough.

Sold my UQ2 as a result; whilst i loved the one box solution and is small footprint it was just overkill for what the space could handle

Funny how experience differs. It may be my speakers, which are mounted on the wall behind my desk so I do get a decent stereo image. The speakers are titchy Neat Iotas which have a rather good ribbon tweeter and limited bass extension so quite well suited to the small room they’re used in.

TBH I didn’t fully realise how capable they are until the Nait 50 was brought into play.
