Pretty good arnt they?
Yes
We like ours.
Ive got a month of on time with mine so far, sounding very nice and in a different world to my 13 year old unserviced nap 200.
Its not a bad amp
I like mine too. I do find you need to turn it up to 8.30/9 o’clock to really get the level of detail and punch it’s capable of. It’s no slouch at low volumes but a lot less detailed.
Brilliant bit of kit, I had mine for a few years
12 months with mine.
Only a month or so with the 300DR, bought one new for 4K.
Its not the first 300 though, enjoyed the original 300 for many years but in the end swapped out the 300 for a 500 and whilst this was an improvement I just didn’t fully gel with the 500.
Unable to afford a 500DR downgraded to a 250DR (2nd one, owned one before the 300) then the 4k deal on the 300DR.
Is this me done on power amps… hope so, otherwise divorce.
It’s pretty special, yeah.
I have a 300DR. It is paired with a 552DR. Before that it was with a 52. It was great with 52 and better with 552. On initial audition, it was good enough to nix my longstanding plan to get olive 135s to go with the 52.
We have also heard it with the old 82 (box-swapping before sending several boxes to Tasmania). I don’t recommend that combo.
To me, the 300DR is much better at lower volumes than any 250 before NC. At higher volume, it was sensibly described by a non-hifi-person as “exactly the same (as an olive 250) except that it is better at everything”.
I’d accept that a 500DR or a pair of 350s would be a bit bettor in my main system, but the law of diminishing returns applies.
I’d be interested in what you think of each amp, especially as you have gone both up and down the range.
Very happy with mine. I do a lot of low- volume listening (shared lounge at night is most of my listening), and the 300DR is a bit of a step up on the 250 in this regard.
At 77 years young, I’ve happily reached the top rung of the NAIM ladder with mine. And we all know that septuagenarians should NOT be on ladders.
Very satisfied with mine NAP300 DR .
Same here. Amazing musicality and drive with 300dr
I find the commentary here fascinating.
Though I’m a) not the OP and b) not in the immediate position to upgrade…I wonder how the amp section of the SN3 that I have (with HCDR) would stack against the 250DR, 300DR, or 250NC?
I’ll add that, I fully understand and appreciate the importance of sources and Preamps n the chain.
The Supernait 3 killed off the 202/200 from the naim range. It’s a very capable amplifier.
But I think all of the amps you list are an upgrade on the power section. People would historically have moved to 282/250DR as the next step on the ladder (but some said the 282/SN3 was a bigger “jump” than SN3/250DR as a step, suggesting power amp section of SN3 is stronger than pre).
We demoed SN3 a long time ago, but 250DR (with a 272) had more grip on speakers. For demanding speakers the 250DR would be audibly better.
We’ve owned 250DR and 300DR - latter is quite an upgrade.
The NC250 - search the forum for various opinions on where that sits relative to OC. An upgrade on 250DR for sure.
It’s not a 1-to-1 comparison by any stretch but I heard a 250NC system several times when demoing speakers last year and I came away unimpressed, certainly compared to my 300DR at home. Lacked the organic, liquid bass that I love about mine.
Again, not a direct head-to-head but I doubt the 250NC comes close.
Hello @Flyfisher - if you don’t mind my asking, what are your speakers? I don’t see them listed in your profile.
