NAP300 does not start

Hello,
My system was turned off for two weeks. Now I wanted to start my NAP300 power amplifier first. When I press the on/off button on the 300 PS, there is a quiet noise (“bong”), the lights on the PS and the NAP300 come on for one to two seconds and then go out again. I repeated this a few times, but the devices do not stay on.

During the last cold start about 8 weeks ago, the micro fuse broke. I replaced it with the spare fuse that came with the device. After that, the device worked perfectly

Does anyone know what this problem is and have any advice?
Thanks in advance.

Christoph

The “bong” sound in and of itself seems normal. Mine does that - I think it’s the current energizing the big transformer.

The first question is, “Is it the physical switch itself?” Is the switch not staying clicked in? The switches do fail from time to time.

I think this has come up before and Bart is correct - the switch isn’t catching. People have been able to sort it out just by physically activating the switch a number of times until it does begin to catch again - obviously disconnect the power first.

Yes please!!!

Thanks. I’ve already tried that, but without success. I had read the tip in an older topic.

I think in that case you may need a replacement on/off switch, but you need a dealer to have look as remote diagnosis is of very limited accuracy.

Jab the button quite hard, using your finger or the rubber end of a pencil. You may need to do it a few times, and you really do need to jab it quite hard. Not a press, a quick, hard, jab.

Jab it like it owes you money!

@Richard.Dane suggested using the eraser end of a mechanical pencil to do the jabbing. That’s what I did when my 300DR switch failed last summer, and it has been fine ever since.

Using the eraser end of a pencil is my recommendation to exercise the switch in and out and get the spring and catch aligned again. Obviously make sure the PS is unplugged from the mains when you do this!

One thing I have noticed on the more recent switches compared to my older ones is that the switch button sits further into the casework, and so it needs to be pushed further in to latch.

Thank you very much for your replies. Good to hear that it’s apparently just a mechanical problem. I’ll keep you posted.

The advice about the pencil was worth its weight in gold. However, the problem does not seem to have been permanently fixed. I probably have to repeat the procedure every time I switch it on. Pretty annoying for such an expensive device. My ND555 also has a button (play/stop) that does not work reliably. Since there does not seem to be any service available in Germany anymore, repairs have become difficult.
Thanks again for your help!

I had similar trouble, it kept recurring. The part is widely available on the internet, my dealer got one from Naim pictured below, the part number is on it too. He fitted it in the time it took me to drink my coffee.
