Why not mix modern source to older amps?
This should not be a problem - even mixing the amps (dr and non dr) could bring the final balance.
Preferring non dr over dr? Perfectly fine.
I prefer prefix over superline - old hdx over new top class melco.
It all is connected to the feeling you got when playing with combinations and upgrades…
On analog path I have top notch 90s all over… all from one era…
Works so good.
Digital it is mixed with different series and even brands (switch)
Oh dear - works as well
The most important thing is of course to listen and decide for yourself, but on a purely technical level it may well be true that different editions do not fit together very well.
I don’t think it’s quite as simple as that, at least in systems I have listened to. Of course a full DR system with well matched boxes will sound good but I don’t think a mixture is necessarily going to cause a mismatch. To me the preamp power supply is where the biggest gains came with DR, and I would choose a DR’d Hicap or Supercap with any Naim pre. On the other hand I agree with @drago and others that the NDAC seems to prefer a non-DR 555PS.
Hi Chris, “doesn’t work for me” is only my personal opinion
I’ve herd that the DR gear has been about 3x more successful in sales than previous Naim gear which is great for the business.
I’m looking forwards to hearing the newer gear and I hope the sound signature is closer to the classic box but has that DR grip. Unfortunately Naim are no longer available in my area of the world, guess I’ll have to wait.
Cheers
I really rate my (Pots 7) 52 - I’d rather have it than a 252, for example.
I expected to get olive 135s to replace my olive 250 to go with my 52. I was advised to hear a 300DR before buying, as both that and 500 would be better overall. Listening suggested that was right, and I bought a s/h 300DR.
That mixed amp combo works comparably well with my LP12, with olive CDS2 and ‘classic’ NDX2+XPSDR.
Of course, some dealers may feel incentivised to suggest replacing olive boxes with a complete set of new boxes.
