Give it 5 days Stu Great you are enjoying it already. Many schools of thought re speakers, I really wouldn’t worry about the 606s not being up for the task. ATB Peter
PS. Well well it’s clearly early days, but from my own experience I will wholeheartedly have to agree with Thomas ( if at all possible), but give it time……
I love Bruckner. Last time I auditioned loudspeakers on a hifi show I asked to play the 2nd part of the 7th symphony. Gradually people went out of the room until I finally remained alone there enjoying one of the most brilliant apotheoses of music.
The 552 and the 500 are (literally) made for each other. I ran the 552DR with a 300DR for a while, it was very good, however with the addition of a 500DR they were/are sublime…
Look at it like this. Your upgrade journey is done for now. Enjoy it as a permanent system. You can always improve, upgrade and tinker. But when I stopped uograding my system I enjoyed the music more. Just enjoy it for what it is. Which is a monster of an amp! Great speakers, superb source in a lovely room. Enjoy Stu!
Thanks Dan. And it no small thanks thanks to you I’ve chosen a 500.
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking a power amp upgrade might be a secondary upgrade. My 300 should have taught me otherwise. It’s HUGE. And and my previous upgrade to this was a 552DR. It’s no poor relation, far from it.
That goes with all upgrades, if you cannot afford to buy it, then don’t listen to it in the first place.
As once you do, you can’t forget about it, even trying to fool yourself, that it wasn’t, it will always be there
That’s odd. I’m glad that you are enjoying your 500 ride and don’t want to rain on the parade…
In the old days i used to read that the biggest step was 252 to 552. That was sort of unanimous as far as upgrades were concerned.
Anyway glad you are enjoying it.
