Nap500

Prior to the 500 I would have said my 606 were the strongest link in the chain. They were effortless.

Now they feel, dare I say it, the weakest. They still sound amazing, but they’re earning every penny. It sounds like every last drop is being squeezed out of them, in a good way.

I’ve been watching your system build in awe. When do you think it will be ready???

Good advice Dan which I intend to follow. No upgrades for a very long time now…

Take some long long time listening……the 606 is not screaming to be replaced.

I wasn’t implying that your speakers were a bottleneck. Far from it.

I was just sharing my experience.

I believe that (if possible!) a little acoustic treatment would allow you to enjoy your system even more.

Sometimes a bit of treatment, well targeted, symmetrical and balanced, has a big impact.

It is a passive thing, it allows the system to show itself. This is then a good basis to consider a change, or not!

You will always have something thats a bottle neck in a system, unless you go straight in with a very large wallet.
Yes you could say your speakers are, but then after that its your 500 amp, then after that its your 555, then after that its, well it just keeps on going don’t it.

Enjoy it, i bet it will soon warm up, hours not days or weeks, as its already burnt in.

I think it was me implying the speakers could be a bottleneck but that’s probably just the excitement of a new upgrade :sunglasses:

Just chucking a blanket over the TV made a positive difference to the sound I was hearing and so I’m very open to things I can do to treat the room.

I can help you with that.

Take some panoramic picture of the room.

TVs between speakers aren’t the best sonically. Of course I have my TV between speakers. It’s how it is for most of us, unless we have a separate listening room, which isn’t always practical.

I run the 606’s with 552DR & 500DR, IMHO no way are they the weakest link. I demoed 707’s…didn’t work for me, and listened to 808’s…very good however silly money…
The 606’s are the Goldilocks of the range, enjoy them !

Thanks I think I was just a bit overwhelmed earlier. I’m coming round now.

And yes the 606 are very special indeed

I will do tomorrow Thomas thank you :+1:

Take my advice and ignore how things sound right now. It will take around 10 days for the 500 to settle in and your speakers will sound fine. I used my 500 for a few days recently (when my DBL’s were down) with a pair of old Warfdale Diamonds and they (surprisingly) didn’t sound out of place.

Currently, I keep the hifi totally separate from the TV. I have a separate AV amp and surround sound system. I have a Beresford amp/ speaker switch which enables me to use my speakers on either the Naim system or AV amp. Then the centre and rear speakers are permanently linked to the AV amp. I would like to know how I can use the NDS to improve my TV sound set up with existing system.
Would welcome any suggestions.

I have an optical cable from my BT box that goes into the NDS.

Glad to hear about that smile on your face. Enjoy the journey.

Some would say that the boxes between the speakers is not the best place, indeed nothing at all. It just depends on how much feedback to the boxes there is. Let the system warm up for a few weeks though.

That’s great advice thank you. I agree Naim kit needs its own time and space to flourish.

Thanks Phil, I think I’m already experiencing something of a sonic roll coaster as the 500 settles.

You mean to get used to it I guess and not that it technically need 10 days to start performing at its best?

I was just about to post something similar and say suddenly all that live feeling disappeared.
Also with all this posting I wonder if you are really engrossed with the new musical experience
